Gladiator is a better score. There's more action on it, it's more carefully thought out and executed. The Last Samurai is good, but there are noticeable weak parts and some glaringly silly repetitions on the CD, and also the movie is no good.

Best Gladiator cue: "The Battle" (aka. The Gladiator Waltz)

Best Last Samurai cue: "Spectres in the Fog"

    Last Samurai Vs Gladiator?

Russel Crowe could pound Tom Cruise right into the cracks of the concrete in my opinion. :-D There no Competition there!

Hm both score has an advantage.

Gladiator is more ethereal and action packed, and the movie which it was composed for is a masterpiece (for me).

The Last Samurai is rather a meditative score with an average HZ theme attached to it (though very nice, i think Hans wanted to recall the spirit of Thin Red Line.

But i rank both scores amongst the best Zimmer albums.

I think Gladiator is more complex in terms of orchestra and themes.the sound is deeper.
But...the last samurai is more coherent in orchestrations and themes.Hans not try to compose a new theme in every track like in gladiator.Last samurai don't have so references (morricone, wagemer, holtz) like in gladiator. Is more zimmerish.
I don't know. Both scores has something.LIke in all zimmer scores.
    Best Gladiator cue:Might of rome
    Best last samurai cue:idily's end.

I think action-wise Gladiator has The Last Samurai beat, but for softer moments, I prefer The Last Samurai.
