In my ears, it would have to be either Marco Beltrami or Brian Tyler. What do you think?

    Joel Goldsmith.

Some of Joel's music could have easily been Jerry Goldsmith music.

Ah Dink, I know that Goldsmith Junior's music sounds a good bit like he grew up listening to papa's scores; I meant to say any OTHER young composer. Joel doesn't count simply because he IS a Goldsmith.

But I do agree with you. His music would be the only reason I would even watch Stargate: Atlantis.

What strange questions sometimes appear in forums, there is only one Goldsmith,if someone would be influenced by him,and you could notice that in his music, everyone would say that he was ripping Goldsmith off.

However i think that Brian Tyler, has the same sort of style in his music, very much based on melodies and the action stuff,it's very percurssion driven, just like Goldsmith...

Well, without any doubt, James Horner and Chris Young in their early years in the business. Today - Beltrami really writes in the spirit of Jerry Goldsmith, although he certainly has a style of his own.

I agree with you, Mikael. I hear the distinctive influence of Jerry Goldsmith in Marco's music and it's another reason why I look forward to hearing a new score from him. Just right off the top of my head, hearing Elliot's theme from the Flight Of The Phoenix remake made me think of Goldsmith.

I think Ottman sounds somewhat Goldsmith-influenced.

I know what you mean, especially in X2 and Fantastic Four. Apparently, the X-Men score was greatly inspired by Goldsmith's Star Trek stuff as both Ottman and Singer are big fans of the show and movies. Singer saw the film as his own The Wrath of Kahn. Bigger budget, more time, epic story, deeply exploring the mythologies, "death" of a major character are similarities that both films have.

But, so far I think that Beltrami and Tyler are in the top slots. Beltrami for obvious reasons and it seems that Goldsmith's music was a huge inspiration for Brian Tyler and it is definitely noticable in scores like Timeline; to which Goldsmith provided a rejected (but quite amazing considering) score.

I havent noticed too much lately where anyone really sounds like him. EArlier in their careers both Young and Horner copied and imitated him some. Horner in several scores and Young in things like Def Con 4 and Wolf Pack. I did notice a fairly good score for Sahara that reminded me of him some the other day. Also I agree that the score for that mining film by Joel has lots that remind me of Goldsmith from late 70s.
I also remember that really terrible Laserblast film too at the drivein. The one just released with music by him. What a terrible movie that was. LOL>
