Has anyone picked up the Stu Phillips comp featuring music from FOLLOW ME, THE LOSERS and HELLS ANGELS ON WHEELS? This must be the oddest soundtrack comp of the year... the coolest oddest one! Only for surf movie fans and hard core Stu fans for sure.

I'll start a conversation with myself here....

Peter, I think one of the more odder, cooler comps is the Croon-a-roma CD with rare cuts from 60s and 70s Italian flix....

I wasn't aware this was out. I absolutely love his score to FOLLOW ME. I wish I could see this film as well some day. I don't know the other films or their scores but am interested in hearing them. Unfortunately, I haven't picked up items like Knight Rider, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, or the 4 cd set of Battlestar Gallactica (which probably can't be had now). But because of FOLLOW ME, I'd put this at the top of the list.

OK, Pete, I've looked around for this Phillips item. Intrada didn't have one. Buysoundtrax didn't have one. Where the heck do I find a copy?

I seek because you didn't post a link in the first place and so I figured you didn't have it for sale. But now you get some money from me!

Well, the Stu disc is en route. None of the songs that are on the original LP make the CD only the score cues. I'll miss Spray-Colored Glasses but it'll be nice to have Stu's ultra-60s choir descend those scales once again.

OK, it's in! And played too! A record since they often sit on the sheft for a while before I get to them.

Boy is FOLLOW ME wonderful. Very 60s but full of neat rhythms and choirs and fast-moving phrases. I love this score. And I really wish I could see this film some day since I can imagine any surfing footage would come to life under this music.

The sound was a tad muddy. Was this from tapes or did they find an LP and just filter off the high end? I'll have to go dig out my LP and hear if it sounds like that. But it wasn't too serious.

I was unfamiliar with both the films and music that fill up the rest of the CD.

THE LOSERS is actually available on DVD. But the idea of a low-budget bikers go to Nam to rescue POWs film, well, it's either amazing or ridiculous. THE GAY DECEIVERS has an interesting premise for a film from 1968: two guys, one who has a fiancee, trying to avoid the draft pretend to be gay. They get out of the army but the draft board follows up on them which forces them to live together and pretend they are lovers. I've never even heard of this film but it sounds like a highly unusual curio I wouldn't mind seeing.

The music for the other films ranges from light TV-ish cues to a Crime Jazz-sound. None reach the level of FOLLOW ME but none of it is bad either.

OK, Pete. This disc is an EL RECORDS/CHERRY RED RECORDS disc from the UK. The same company puts out a compilation of Piero Piccioni music. Are you going to pick that up for the store as well?

I knew you'd like it Lou. Here's what can be had from the label that I think may interest you (and others too... this is really great stuff... the 60s wasn't all about John Barry):

    Seduction of Piero Piccioni
    Morricone Kill/Spaghetti Western Magic
    Morricone High
    Morricone in Love
    Psichedelico Jazzistico (Morricone)
Dream within a Dream (Edda Dell'Orso, Morricone vocalist)

    Which ones you want?

    Peter

You know, it's just me, but I don't like Morricone anthologies. Instead of putting out a few tracks from this and that I'd rather get the complete scores or have them issue the complete scores. In any case, of the ones they offer the Psychedelic Jazz CD would be the one to avoid. I mean those cues are the wildest things in film music but it would be very difficult to listen to a whole album of them.

The Piccioni items are just so much harder to find on CD that any anthology looks good.

Also an album of Edda Dell'Orso vocals would be hard to say no to.

I've played this disc about 3 times now. FOLLOW ME is such good fun. And I owned this on LP all the time and just stopped playing it because its so much easier to play CDs now. Shame on me. Hearing this is like having a reunion with a long lost friend.

Great! Is anyone else reading? Does anyone else care? Guess not.... for me, one of the greatest things about collecting music among collectors is enjoying something no one cares about.

Lou, these two request are now available for ordering. Quantities are low, but obviously these are not moving very fast. FYI.
