Folks,Coming Soon's website has an entry regarding the international poster and the soundtrack. The international poster's credits, of course, list Patrick Doyle as composer- but also "Harry Potter Themes by John Williams". Also, the release date for the soundtrack is November 8th.
JWFan.net also features this news.
Interesting, huh?

I'm actually looking forward to Doyle's score for HP4, (the music has been the only interesting thing to me about the whole HP series but that's another story) but I'm glad that he will use Williams' themes.posted 09-21-2005 07:47 AM PT (US)

It'll be nice to hear what Doyle can do with Williams' themes, but I hope it's just a few quotes for continuity. I'd rather most of it just be pure Doyle, melody and orchestration.

A quote of Hedwig's Theme for the main title, hopefully not much more. Of course, Voldemort's themes could get a great workout in this part, but I don't think Williams' themes fit too well with Doyle's style.NP: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Joby Talbot)

I think he means that five second quote of the Superman theme in Quest For Camelot. It was really tacky.

While I am glad to be hearing that there will be thematic continuity in the film series, I am in agreement with those who feel that Williams' music should be used sparingly in the new film. Obviously I believe it should open with "Hedwig's Theme," and reference that bit every once and a while, but I hope that the bulk of the score is Doyle's own material.Williams himself actually laid the groundwork for this in Prisoner of Azkaban by jettisoning the bulk of his pre-existing themes in favor of new material. I consider POA the strongest of the Harry Potter scores thus far because of this. I did like the themes that Williams came up with for the first two films, but they fit an eleven and twelve year old's perception of events, not an adolescent's. I certainly don't think that Williams' theme for Voldemort will fit anymore.

I think both of Williams' Voldemort themes would be perfect for the GOF climax, if the entire score were written by Williams. I don't think they would work in a Doyle score.

Both? Are you counting the Chamber of Secrets theme as a variation on Voldemort's theme (reasonable considering the former is based upon the latter)? Or are you referring to a different Voldemort's theme?

No, I'm talking about different themes. Philosopher's Stone has two themes, though both are very underrepresented on CD. The first seems to be a You-Know-Who theme and the other a Voldemort theme. They can be heard (plus the 4 note Stone motif) in The Face of Voldemort - first the YKW theme and then, when Voldemort is revealed, the other.NP: Dangerous Beauty (George Fenton)

BTW, I really like that Voldemort and Harry both have two themes each, relating to different aspects of the characters, in that first score.
