What's up with it? Did I miss the annoucement or something?
I'm just curious as to what makes this idea better than, say, Soundtrack.net, for example. For those who haven't seen, most of the MovieMusic item listings, and searches, now contain a link to: http://www.soundtrackinfo.com/
I think it's a great idea to have a searchable resource for info an' all, I'm just wondering what makes it different from the ones currently in existence.

D'oh!Not officially announced yet, but I guess the cat's out of the bag now that links are showingup on the MovieMusic site.
This is a database that is essentially taking aim at the mass confusion over at IMDb's soundtrack section.
The project is not abandoning the score-only crowd, but it will get used most by goofballs looking for songs heard in movies.
The most unique thing about it are the links for songs and artists. Click on a song name, and you can see just how many times it appears on soundtracks. Same for artists.
All kinds of other info will be gathered on the soundtrack pages, like press quotes from movie reviews, random (but related) information like recording anomalies, awards/nominations, individual notes on song tracks or score pieces, etc.
If there was just one site out there that presented all of this information so clearly, there would be no endeavor on my part.
As far as any comparisons with SoundtrackNet, peanuts and watermelons. I believe SoundtrackNet recently announced reader comments for its site. The MovieMusic site has had these from the beginning, now with more than 6500 or so. There's no interest in doing that all over again! There were no plans for it anyway, as the SoundtrackINFO project has no interest in subjective reviews or star ratings, other than what mainstream presses say. It is purely objective in its presentation of information, something I think the web is sorely in need of on a grand scale in every niche.
Some examples of this project in action....
Finding out about songs in movies:
Skeleton KeyA home for press quotes:
Happy EndingsRandom but fun (sometimes unbelievable) information:
True ConfessionsWhat about all those songs from the movie not on the soundtrack CD? What are they and where the heck can I get them?
The Girl Next DoorOf course, there's lots of room for information about score CDs. Tons of scores have interesting information that is never mentioned on typical sites.
It's like a big huge wheelbarrow ready to be filled with... weeds? Ok, not the right analogy, but you get the idea. If you have favorite soundtracks or scores, and want people to know some peculiar information you know about the scores, go for it.
Please use the site... it's free. Start telling people about it too. It will end up being a huge mo-fo'in site, because people are craving this kind of thing. Just look at the mayhem at IMDb.
So, the basic site is there, but it's not near finished. Home page, along with general feedback and search pages will be tweeked soon. As always, your feedback is welcome!
Enjoy.

I guess an appropriate question for anyone would be:Is there already a site out there that has all this? Maybe in my haste to act on a crazy impulse, I may have forgotten the "does it already exist" research. I have a hunch though...
I forgot to mention one of my favorite parts of the info site. It's simple, located on the right side of the homepage. "Soundtracks released 1 year ago, 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 15 years ago..." This kind of thing is interesting to me, for no reason. Always like reading in papers or hearing on the radio "this day in history" kinda stuff.
The home page will fill up with randomly selected information pulled from from the database. It'll be interesting, for sure, as it's all generated by computers. New views into our hobby will be generated everytime the home page is loaded! Ack!
I also like doing the six degrees of Kevin Bacon with all the songs and artists linked up.
Ok, see? I am getting carried away, but this is what I have done because I've become real bored with movie music lately. This makes me crazy about it again.

Looks good, Peter. I guess the closest thing related to this is soundtrackcollector.com, but it's quite different. How on earth do you find the time to do all this?

I'm impressed you had the time to even think of this, let alone do it.

Is it going to include bootlegs and promos or only commercial CDs?What about long out of print stuff like the original Varese Club CDs
How about LP's?
It might be possible to get members to contribute scans of rare things to help create entries.

No LPs, no bootlegs, but yes on legitimate promos. If not their own entries, a mention on the commercial CD page. For example, the Haunted Mansion CD and promo:
http://www.soundtrackinfo.com/ost.asp?soundtrack=4201Yes on the old Varese Club discs... post the titles and we'll get started!

How do you add titles?I can supply cover scans for many OOP titles. Let me know what DPI you want as well as size and file format and I will provide what I have.

Send however you like, but at a bare minimum:300 pix wide, 72 dpi, jpg.
As for adding titles, send the following info to feedback@soundtrackinfo.com:
-Title
-Year
-UPC (or catalog number in the case of VCL)
-Tracklisting (individual track times are not needed)In the case of VCL, please indicate the number of units pressed in the exact words mentioned on the inserts, and any other trivial or product info you would find important.
I think that should do it...
Have a good extended weekend, you USA people!
