In the next two weeks Williams will conduct the Boston Pops at Tanglewood and the L.A. Phil at the Hollywood Bowl. In both venues he will conduct a tribute to the three big composers that passed away last summer, Jerry Goldsmith, David Raksin and Elmer Bernstein.

The Tanglewood concert on Saturday night will be broadcast WCRB for those in the Boston area who might want to tune in. Josh Groban joins Williams in selections from movie songs including Chaplin's "Smile" and Horner's "Remember" from Troy. Also, a tribute to the films of Stanley Donen.

The Hollywood Bowl concert includes the concert premiere of the music from War of the Worlds by Williams himself.

    Well . . . this . . . makes . . . me . . . angry . . . ! Williams decides to conduct a live presentation of all of that - plus WAR OF THE WORLDS!!!! - and I live in . . . Georgia; practically the other side of Earth now.

Thanks Hector, I love you too.

Hey guys. I was at the Hollywood Bowl performance tonight (Saturday), but had to leave during the Star Wars Fanfare (the second encore). Just curious what I missed beyond that. Thanks for the help, gents.

I'll be interested to hear what people think that cue was after the "Liberty" performance. I knew it was a vintage Williams piece (the harp, the theme formation and repetition, the classic Williams orchestrations), but I had no idea what it was from. Maybe a concert-written piece? In any case, I heard bits and pieces from some of my favorite scores within. Good stuff.

Looks like the only thing I missed was the E.T. Moon cue, which sucks, but I've heard it before. Thanks for the rundown of the encore (although it's a bit out of order if you're worried about such things -- Indiana Jones came after Yoda's theme and then the Star Wars Main Title/Credits). Rock on.

    Wonderful concert last night.

Liberty Fanfare was followed immediatly by Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds. The last piece before intermission was Rózsa's "Parade of the Charioteers" from Ben Hur(Williams recorded this piece with the Boston Pops on the CD "Summon the Heroes").

Did he have two Close Encounter cues? I think that's what confused me. I recognized the five note motif from the third cue. But the cue directly after the Liberty fanfare was unfamiliar to me (although clearly vintage Williams). What theme from Close Encounters was this second cue?
