FREAKING WOW! On a recent browse through my wallet I stumbled across an American Express gift card that I believe I recieved last Christmas - most things like this, things I can't use immediately, go about unnoticed in my eyes. I called the number on the back to check what the balance of it was and I was startled at what that machine told me: $200; who the hell gave me $200 and why did I forget about it?! Either way, it was quite an enjoyable find and I went straight to Best Buy with my new friend. I had been telling myself that I needed a new pair of headphones because my old Sony set would be better off six feet under than bruising and scratching my ears so I first set about to find a new pair of headphones. At first I was thinking about grabbing this pair of Philips that wrapped around the ear for $20 (they would work great during those morning jogs that I never take) but instead something else caught my eyes. Nestled amongst these "wannabe" stereo headphones was a pair of triumphant Bose Triport. Those words, "powerful, convincing bass response", drew me closer and I fell in love without a moments hesitation. I glared up at the price tag and read, "$149.99". Oh well, looks I wouldn't be getting much on this trip. I stopped off and grabbed the DVD of "Sin City" and made my way to the register. When I got home I threw "Sin City" on my table and began to open my new pair of headphones; after about 30-minutes (damn that blister packageing!) I had them opened and I popped them straight into my portable CD player. The first CD atop my display case was Jablonsky's "The Island". I inserted the disc carefully into my player and pressed that big silver button called "PLAY". Ohhh, that opening synth/guitar cue from "The Island", oh man, it sounds much better than anything Zimmer did with it in "M:I-2" just playing on my old headphones; but on these new ones, it was simply perplexing. Every note seemed to float on its own gracefully to my eardrum and reverberate as if it was made in Heaven itself. I layed my head back on my couch and was transported to a film music place I had never been before. The answers to all of life's questions seemed to be just a reach away and everything smelled so much better. Imagine the most breathtaking experience of your life and add the most awe-inspiring moment; subtract the time you lost your virginity and divide by your first time driving a car by yourself. If the formula is done correctly, you will have imagined how I felt listening to just "The Island Awaits You" on this new pair of God-machines. Now you must all go buy them, now. You will never experience sound the same way.

And, by God, if you're going to invest that much for headphones, they better sound magnificent. Bose is always more expensive but they usually make a quality product.

I think their headphones are better than their actual Surround Systems. Their surround systems are actually not so good. A lot of people see the price and just figure "they have to be the best cuz they're $1000 for a speaker!" I'd prefer Klipsch and Yamaha over them any day. But, like I said, I am pretty sure their headphones are much better than their surround systems.

I have a five piece Bose stereo set and two Klipsch speakers. Out of those five Bose speakers, the only one I use anymore is the bass to complement the Klipsch ones. I wouldn't mind giving those headphones a listen though.

Oh yeah, give those babies a try. I snatched together my favorite scores by my favorite composers and listened through Beltrami's "Hellboy" and Tyler's "Children of Dune". I noticed a lot more of the timpani in the "Hellboy" cues than I had noticed before; "CoD" sounded superb, but it's hard for that score to sound bad. I'll be giving Goldsmith's "The Shadow", William's "Return of the Jedi" and "War of the Worlds", and Zimmer's "The Thin Red Line" and "Tears of the Sun" a go around shortly. I just put in my Amazon order for Goldsmith's "Alien", Goldenthal's "Alien 3", and Chris Young's "Hellraiser" so I'll be getting those around Friday and their first run will be on my new headphones. The way you guys talk about "Alien 3", I can't wait to hear it in the Bose.

You mean you use the sub? Yeah, I think Klipsch only has like 1 or 2 subs that actually hit 20hz, and they're like THX Ultra 2 certified so they're hella expensive. I use dual Yamaha subs (the ones that actually hit 20hz before they discontinued them thanks to Jusin pointing them out to me )

I actually had to buy the Varese release of the Cliff Eidelman "The Alien Trilogy" because they didn't have any copies of Goldsmith's original score. It was only $16.98, which isn't bad; but I already own Horner's deluxe edition "Aliens" and will soon own Goldenthal's "Alien 3", so a good majority of the CD is a bit worthless to me.

Those seven tracks from Alien will be worth plenty to ya

That was how I got my hands on Alien as well. Really got into Goldsmith after that score... Eidelman hits the Goldsmith and Goldenthal portions out of the park IMO. Aliens lacks the tight playing of the LSO unfortunately. Great CD nonetheless!
