What's the biggest reason to make you buy soundtracks or film scores?
When I discover new music I like while watching the film
6168 (51.2%)I never buy soundtracks
1569 (13.0%)When I just love the movie
1513 (12.5%)When the soundtrack includes songs by a favorite band(s)
1088 (9.0%)When the film was scored by a favorite composer
996 (8.3%)Other
724 (6.0%)Well, while I'm curious to know what 724 "other" votes are, at least you can see how well the composer is respected in average surfer opinion....

In response to all of those "S.W.A.T." reviews that came along with Goldenthal's score on this site, an "Other" option was probably, "I thought it had that rockin' Linkin Park song that was in the movie; I didn't even bother looking at the back. Anywayz, Linkin Park rockz and this classical music stuff suckz!" Yeah, like Goldenthal's music can be classified as classical on that album (or being bad!); and, why the hell didn't you bother to flip the damn thing around?![Message edited by nuts_score on 08-18-2005]

The same applies for those who picked up the "Cellular" score, to be disappointed the Nina Simone "Sinnerman" remix wasn't on the CD...(but the track titles were on the case!) or those who pick up the Danny Elfman "Spider-Man" score and wonder where that "Hero" song is....common ailment that could be cured by reading. All the same, I'm both disheartened and likewise, not surprised that "favorite composer" is essentially last, (and we'll just call "other" a "6.0% margin of error.")

well, I would agree with the majority of the poll. I usually buy a CD if I liked what I heard in the film. If I didn't like it in the film, why would I want the CD? Then again, I saw The Great Raid more than anytihng because I enjoy Trevor Rabin's scores, I hadn't even seen a preview for the movie beforehand. That being said, I despise those "song" soundtracks. Its pointless. If I want a song by a band, I will buy their CD, not a compilation of their song with a bunch of other songs by completely different aritsts in completely different styles...very rarely is a song written solely for a movie soundtrack these days. And even if it is, it usually ends up on their next album to help sales.

I think there's only been a few song albums that I bought. The most recent one was Garden State which I enjoyed very much!Clayton
