Kevin: has anyone figured out how to burn it off or convert the files? I've tried Windows Media Player, Audacity, Nero, DBPowerAMP music converter, no luck with any of them.
I don't normally say things like this, but this release is complete bullshit. The license protection has this to say:
Copy to CD not allowed
Copy to portable player not allowed
3 copy(s) to an SDMI-compliant portable player remaining
License backup not allowedFox must really want their online music service to fail. This is inexcusable and I'm planning on demanding a refund (I'm not really hoping for my money back, but maybe saying something will get through to these bungers.

Here's what some people have been doing...quote:
having trouble copying the tracks to cd? here's the deal:because they're f'ed up, if you download the whole album from fox, it gives you one license to copy to cd 10 times, but when you use windows media player (you have to to burn drm wma's; ver 9+), it stops copying after track 10. Why? because the license thinks that every time a track hits it up for permission, you're copying the whole thing to cd once. in other words, there should be a 10x copy to cd license for each file, not the whole cd.
here's how i got around it:
follow the steps to download the whole album as a zip, then close IE, unzip the files to a directory.
Reopen IE and go thru the same downloading process, but DONT ACTUALLY DOWNLOAD the file. If you look at the page as it loads, it says something like "getting license and content". What it's doing is copying the license info to your computer. now open win media player, drag all your files into a playlist, and right-click one of them. click on the last tab, licenses. It should have just about the same rights info as the download page, except it will say 20 cd copies and 6 portable device copies. Now you can copy the whole album to cd.
quote:
If you go to your My Stuff thing in the stupid little side thing that pops up at foxmusic.com or whatever. Click on the albums thing and it will bring up the popup window where it gives you the link to download the zip file of the album. As long as that page loads a second time you should be able to copy the rest of the tracks 'cause for some reason it doubles the licensing.Funny, as others just used Media Player to burn it to CD and had no problems at all, got every song. Then they ripped the CD to get MP3s.

Actually, the fact of the matter was that apparently nobody could do anything with the DRM encoded WMA tracks without doing something illegal first, so now Fox Navio is offering the download in standard mp3 format, and you can do anything you want with them.

I was able to make a CD of the WMA files in Windows Media Player 10. Then I just made mp3s from that. I had a helluva lot more difficulty actually purchasing the music than I did making a CD of it. Nice to know they are offering mp3s now but they need a better cart system. I know several people who accidentally purchased more than one license for the music.

Just got back from picking up the score. My only complaint - per usual - is that there isn't enough!!!

It's 50 minutes long! I love David Newman, but I've found it to be a bit unengaging thus far. Any stand-out tracks that anyone has discovered?

The tracks are kinda short, for the most part, but - most importantly - the music (I think) is a perfect fit to the film. With my second viewing of the movie last night, I was able to pay more attention to the music, and it complimented what was seen on the screen beautifully.
I think this is one of those CD's where you will enjoy the music more after you have seen the film, because then you can use your "internal imagination" to visualize what music goes where.

PS. And Bri... Varese is releasing a Firefly score CD!!!

Mr. Kyp, the Varese CD for FIREFLY contains bonus tracks. It will be longer than what is currently available from Fox Music.

Looks to me that the Varese release is for the TV show only.

That's correct. What else were you thinking it would be for, if I may ask?

Varese has two releases, one for David Newman's Serenity, and the other is an announcement for Greg Edmonson's Firefly, which will have more music than the "Digital EP" offered at Fox.

Oh, don't pay attention to me, I got confused when you guys started talking MP3 and whatnot.I'm glad to see there's CD for both the movie and the TV show.
And I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. It just may finally be cool enough here in North Texas to actually wear a brown coat to the theater.

I like Josh Whedon. He always surprises. This is a good movie, very entertaining with surprises. I like Newman's main theme first heard when you see the spaceship Serenity. Wish it had been used more in the movie.

A fantastic film! Newman's score is great. Can't wait to see it again. A good kick off to the Fall and Winter seasons of music and movies!--Bri

Track titles and times (with cover art) for the Firefly CD are now up on Varese's site. Also, there's a new thread about this title, plus "Doom" and "Duma"
