Anyone want to begin wraps on Summer 2005?Uneventful?
Super-exciting?
What was the best, what was the worst?
Anything exciting yet to come?
Go for it. Hopefully this bone has some meat on it.....

Closing to the end of the summer I'm still looking forward to BT's Stealth and Rabin's Great Raid, they'll give a nice end to this exceptional summer.
I think we've heard some great scores, some refreshing (Mr and Mrs Smith, Sahara, The Island), some depressing (Land Of The Dead), some thematical (Batman Begins), I'm 100% satisfied with this summer!

I hope Trevor Rabin gives a nice end with The Great Ride...maybe the "less waited" score (or the "less talked" about) is the one we enjoy the more. We´ll soon find out!

I thought John Williams did a superb job, as usual, with the scores to Revenge Of The Sith and War Of The Worlds. Those were the 2 scores I was most looking forward to and they did not disappoint. The only other summer score I'm interested in is Elfman's Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. As far as the rest goes I haven't been too impressed. As has been the case for the last few years some of the best score releases have come from older films and Intrada tops that with their release of Capricorn One and David And Bathsheba. FSM contributed a few goodies as well, King Kong is one that stands out.
I think this fall/winter season should bring some great music. Patrick Doyle's score to Harry Potter 4, Shore's King Kong, Williams' Munich and Memoirs Of A Giesha are 4 that I'm really looking forward to and I expect Intrada, Varese and FSM will have some goodies up their sleeves.

I think it has been an ok summer. I remember thinking 4 months back that it looked fairly bleak after Revenge of the Sith. But so far, "War of the Worlds" was actually pretty good. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" turned out to be far more interesting than its initial trailers suggested. And even "The Island" was not too bad. If you throw in "Kingdom of Heaven" which is an excellent score CD it gets a little better. "Batman Begins" was not bad and worked better in the film, but the score CD is still pretty good.
I would also add Isham's "Crash" which is surprisingly not receiving a lot of buzz.
Looking forward to hearing Giacchino's score for "Sky High" but not much else until we hit the fall. Then I echo earlier thoughts including the 2 new Williams' scores, Doyles HP 4, Shore's "King Kong," and even Elfman's score for "Corpse Bride."
There are a couple of Oscar bait scores that could be interesting later.
Santaolollo's score for Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain" could be a good break. And though I'm not a Horner fan, some of his recent projects have been promising. "The New World" could be one of those if it avoids becoming another "Braveheart" sounding thing.

thought it only a decent summer. As far as scores go, it's been pretty good:
Batman Begins...don't really care for Zimmer all that much, but he and JNH did a bang up job.
Star Wars was just awesome, and the score to War of the Worlds is even better.
Badalamenti's Dark Water is surprisingly restrained...a good one.
In terms of the movies themselves, Cinderella Man has them all beat. that's a good one. Too bad no one went to see it.

If you had to pick only five biggest (or best) soundtracks to "represent" summer 2005, which do you want to be remembered?Batman Begins, Sith, War of the Worlds, Fantastic Four, Sahara, Stealth, The Island, Charlie and the Choco Facto, Cinderella Man, Crash, so many as always.
I wonder of all these which was the most original.... as you know, Stealth was BT doing Zimmer, Batman Begins was Zimmer doing Zimmer, Fantastic Four was Ottman doing Ottman (or was he?), Cinderella Man was Newman doing Newman. My votes for most original go to Crash and War of the Worlds, maybe Sahara.

My vote for most original would go for "War of the Worlds" as well, but that said, I admire the idea of it a lot more than the actual score.

Well Peter, I was very busy this summer, working hard and long hours in the heat, but I was able to get a few CDs and listen to them some. I did not see many movies this year not like last year. So I did not hear many of the scores. I have not heard anything really great from this summer yet on one particular score. I have not heard Williams War of the Worlds yet nor many of the others. So cant judge them just yet.I did see one older film earlier this summer while on vacation Ithought was ok. Spider Man. I liked the score. I had a tape of it already, but really enjoyed the cues in the film as I wstched it.
