Sadly I had these shipped without jewel cases to save on shipping, and now I'm stuck becuase the back cover of the Goldsmith CD only fits in a SACD cover, which is slightly larger than the normal CD case.

I recently re-bought the Star Wars Trilogy 4-disc Anthology set.

I'll be buying a sealed copy of Land Before Time - James Horner from a friend of mine next week.

I'm also going to get Bruce Broughton's original score for Lost In Space from Intrada as well as a few other CD's.

THUNDERBIRDS 2 (Barry Gray) - What great music. Barry Gray was a genius, and this is a hugely fun listen, like the others in the Silva set.

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (John Barry) - I was vaguely disappointed that of all the newish Bond releases I inadvertantly chose the non-expanded one. Still, great music. And how come John Barry subsequently sounded so much like Lionel Bart (if you see what I mean...)?

JAWS (John Williams) - I love comparing this "collector's" release with the MCA original. It's a whole new ball game, and even where the new one states that some of the tracks were previously released, they differ vastly from the MCA (re)recording. Landmark score, but don't throw away the old one. Play them back to back.

On Friday, I stopped by my local Wal-Mart praying that they carried Marianelli's "The Brothers Grimm"; sadly I was out of luck and instead I picked up the much-raved-about "Valiant" by George Fenton, as well as the Decca release of Thomas Newman's "Ciderella Man". When I returned home after work, I was greeted with a nice Amazon package with my newest three orders: Goldenthal's "Alien 3", Cliff Eidelman's "The Alien Trilogy" (just to have Goldsmith's original themes), and Chris Young's "Hellraiser" (best $39.99 I've spent for a used CD).

    NP> George Fenton's "Valiant" (***/****)
    Thomas Newman's "Cinderella Man" (**/****)
    Elliot Goldenthal's "Alien 3" (***1/2/****)
Cliff Eidelman's "The Alien Trilogy" (***/****)
    Christopher Young's "Hellraiser" (****/****)

    Altered States : (John Corigliano)
    White Mischief : (George Fenton)
Return to Snowy River (Bruce Rowland)

A very good friend of mine died about two months ago. He had a CD catalogue of approx. 15000 titles (film - pop - blues - rock).
He had a lot of the early Varèse titles.
His sister is selling his CD's, and I'm able to buy a few every two weeks.

Here's a funny story which shows how my wife's mind works. Yesterday was our anniversary. We've been married twelve years, but I thought I'd annoy her by waking up and saying, "Wow, thirteen years of complete hell!", to which she replied, "What do you mean thirteen!"

What has that got to do with film music? Well, as usually happens, we go to the grocer on the corner, and I pick out a soundtrack CD from amongst the veg. This time I got FORREST GUMP (why was that suddenly amongst the tomatoes? I don't know - it's not a re-release or anything)...

Great score, of course. But wow, the Goldsmith RUDY influence was more apparent than ever.

You know I'm not a big Zimmer fan at all but the few tracks I've listened to from the full score for it I've enjoyed it quite a bit.

Some of my first full album iTunes purchases:

Medal of Honor - European Assault
Medal of Honor - Rising Sun

Both are by Lennertz...from what I've heard thus far, he gives the Giacchino scores a run for their money. Euro Assault has a fantastic theme.

Suggest all of the MOH scores VERY highly!!!

Yeah, I've got Giacchino's score for "MOH: Frontline"; it's fantastic for being a video game OST, something I'm not to big on. It does have a very large cinematic feel to it - both the game and the score - and I bought it purely on the fact that it was so amazing in the context of the game. Anyway, I did get around to putting in an order in to Amazon but it will only include the "Battlestar Galactica" albums by Richard Gibbs and Bear McCreary. I'll get them around Friday or Saturday. So, my NP are both of those La-La Land releases and a new car.
