Is yesterday's release of The Devil's Rejects the first DualDisc movie soundtrack?

    Say it isn't so!

I'll try and answer my own question. Apparently "Classic Records" released Casino Royale in the DualDisc format in March 2005. Or is it true DualDisc? The Classicrecs website calls it HDAD, but makes no mention of what's on the DVD side (there should be something if this were a true DualDisc). I am skeptical on this one!

    That's not a DualDisc. That's a double sided DVD.

I was at Tower Records last night and noticed a disc called LEAN BY JARRE. It looks like a reissue of that concert recording of music from David Lean films by Maurice Jarre. On the other side of the disc is the concert itself. I believe this is a Dual Disc release, as well.

Learning new stuff all the time....

Mike's right, "Lean by Jarre" was released 6/28 in the DD format from Milan, and so was the label's "Mexico and Mariachis" CD of music from Robert Rodriguez's Mariachi trilogy. The DVD side includes docs on the making of the music, a RR interview, live concert and music video, and the full album in enhanced stereo.

Last Tuesday must be re-dubbed "Movie Soundtrack DualDisc Tuesday." 3 DDs all at once..... there may even be more!

    Sweet!

Here's hoping that the format catches on.

Although I'm annoyed that the Ennio Morricone/Yo Yo Ma disc was only in PCM stereo and Dolby Digital... but then again, that's Sony and they're little bitches about competing formats, so if they were to put a DVD-Audio or DTS track on it they might see it as a challenge to their SACD platform.

Is it just me or is there anyone else who DOESN'T like this? I'm all for extra DVD content... but it should be on a seperate disc. I like my discs to have a label side.

First of all it just looks better. Also, I can tell what it is without having to try to read some small type around the center. Finally, I don't like there to be another playing surface I have to be careful not to touch, scratch, etc.

The playing side faces down when placed in it's jewel box. If there is another playing surface that faces up it is more likely to get dusty/dirty.

I also don't like DVDs with full frame on one side and widscreen on the other. I'm never going to watch the full screen side. I'd rather have a label.

    Does ANYONE agree?

Well sir, I am agin change as much as the next feller and I don't reckon any record pro-ducer has my best interest to mind but there is such a thing as Technological Advancement and this so-called Dual Disc (you will pardon me if I stick to tradditional orthography and eschew the insidious encroachment of the so-called 'incap') and greater data density is a priori a good thing. That being said, I find SACD to be a crock of the stinkiest cheese. What marketing driven drivel that is. (Ditto 5.1.whatever.) If Dual Disc means that i get the complete soundtrack with every 10:00 DVD movie, I will say, "That seems like a good thing." If it prevents me from getting, say, recordings like the original tracks to "Capricorn One" I will be the first in line for a pitchfork and burning tar-brand.

dfkz, there are labelmakers out there for CDs/DVDs/DDs... you can have a label on every side if you want. Course, forget about viewing or hearing contents... but whatever floats yer boat.
