I like how it mirrors the 1930 original. Gnerally looked very good on TV... hope they get the 'big guy' right (imperative).

That ape still looks fake!I think there needs to be a new technology invented, that isn't based on any science incorporated into any known Computer Graphic Image known to man.
Something more than just a special effect.
Something .... like a Muppet.[Message edited by TimT on 06-28-2005]

Holy crap...Peter Jackson, a solid cast, the production team behind LOTR, Howard Shore and Kong opening a can of whoop-ass on T-REX.Forget War of the Worlds or any other movie for the rest of the summer...this will be the one to see.

You speak for me too Mark
They showed the full trailer on Brit TV a few days ago along with a mini interview with an incredibly slim Peter Jackson who now looks unrecognisable from the LOTR director.

Has anyone said how he lost all that weight so quickly? I'm a personal trainer, and have helped a lot of people lose a lot of weight, but not that quick. My only guess would be gastric bypass surgery. Anyway the movie looks great!!!! I cant wait.

During the AFI Tribute To George Lucas that was broadcast recently, comments were included by Peter Jackson. I noticed right away that he looked different. He may have burned off all these calories from being chased to the finish line by Kong.

Why do they insist on remaking this film? For God's sake, get some new ideas. I have to say I am puzzled as to why Peter Jackson wants to do this....The trailer is really the type where you feel you've seen the entire film once its over. They show too much....
I am interested in seeing what Shore will come up with for the film though.

I've read that the original king kong is one of the reasons jackson got in to film making to begin with. That he loved the movie as a child, and has watched it over and over again.
He has said that this is a dream project for him, so as good as LOTR was this should prove to be interresting. I really wish he would do the Hobbit though.

I don't quite understand all the outrage about lack of originality every time a movie is remade. Most movies throughout the history were not "original" insofar as they were adaptions of novels or plays. Some all-time classics (Ben-Hur) are in fact remakes (in this case, a remake of a movie based on a book).
I agree most remakes suck. I don't believe King Kong will. And I don't really see an apparent reason to assume that it must be inferior to the original, either.

Adapting a book or a play is one thing. Remaking a film is another. The question should be whether the remake brings something new with it that the original somehow lacked - a "retelling" rather than a remake. Good remakes are the ones that improve upon the originals or take the story in new directions. Bad ones merely try to immitate what was good about the original film.
And I am not assuming that Jackson's remake will be inferior to the original - I am just doubting that it will be better. And if it is not going to be better, why make it? But obviously we'll have to wait and see...Bottom line: Life is short. Money does not grow on trees. Get some new material.
