Actually I don't think it was a waste because his character does not die, but gets away. Remember at the end where Batman and Gordan are talking on the roof. He tells Batman that Scarecrow and some of the Asylum guys are still on the loose. And then tells him that a new "theatrical" villian left a calling card.

So hopefully Scarecrow comes back for the 2nd film along with the other new villian.

And they really just scratched the surface of Al Ghul. Based on his dialogue in the film, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him. Lazarus Pit, anyone?

Very entertaining film...I agree that it is the best Batman film, though what gives it strength is entirely different from the previous incarnations.

The gritty feel, the layers of emotional struggle, and the foundation established set this one apart -- not just from previous Batman films but from comic books movies in general. Sure, Spiderman captured these elements fairly well -- but let's be fair, teen angst is easier to portray.

My only gripe with the movie was the editing during the hand-to-hand combat scenes. For god sakes, I can't tell who's kick who's ass...other than, well, it must Batman doing the kicking.

As for the music -- solid action cues, a nice, soft theme for the introspective pieces, and the cyclical build-up music (while over-used) is still effective.

Ryan -- "Moron of epic proportions"...bold statement, even for you. If you want to stick your nose up at reviewing "film" music in the context of the film, that's fine...your reviews will simply be one-dimensional. I think scores change for fans once they have seen the film, if not simply for associating images with the sound, but for creating a heightened connection with the music as well. I'm not saying you need to change the focus of your reviews, but dismissing this side to film music as irrelevant may be short-sighted.

So has anyone taken a stab at where all the tracks are in the movie? I've only gotten a couple after seeing the movie once:
    2-Esptesicus - Training montage(?)
    3-Myotis - the Ra's Al Ghul firefight
4-Barbastella - Bruce's parent's deaths(?) and the bats in the cave(?)
5-Artibeus - Batman's first fight at the docks
    6-Tadaria - Scarecrow's fear gas on Batman
    8-Antrozous - Arkham fight(?)
    10-Molossus - the Batmobile chase(?)
11-Corynorhinus - the end scene at the burned mansion

Bat-titles are cute and all, but please put the cue titles in as well!! Anyone else feel free to chime in!

1-Verspertillio The opening of the movie
9-Nycteris is when Bruce return to see Lucious the second time I think followed by his visit in the future bat cave.
10- I was on the impression that it was the cue that came before the Train chase in the end, but I might be wrong.

track 8 is the cue that came before the Train chase, the rest of the track is not in the cd release.

track 10 is from the batmovile chase.
track 2:is when bruce come home after a while in the university(or something).the rest is from the training montage.

track 9:you are correct.the following piece is from bruce preparing his bat-guns.and at the end of the track is when rachel give to bruce his present birthday.

track 7:a suite.bruce and his parents in the mono rail train/bruce trying to find Liam neeson hide into a ninja's group/Bruce in the judgement of his parent's murderer

track 12:I think its not in the movie.is the "justice theme" expanded like a "concert theme".The end of the track is when batman is in a skycapter whathing the city.
Who you think is the composer of the track 5???(Zimmer-the ring or Howard-signs??)

(sorry for my english, but this is the scenes of each track)

The last track on the CD is not a very satisfying way to end an album. It won't bother me so much when the end credits music is in place.

well....I think after the track 11 the end credits music will be great.A must satisfyind end,of course.
But,track 12 is amazing. With the "zimmer adagio" and the string highlit.before watching the movie i really felt how batman was resigned to fight against criminals with this inspiring music.

    Well....Just 2 questions:
1-who do you think is the composer of track 5????(Zimmer with the ring-esque,or howard with signs-esque???)

2-I know the music from each track from wich scene is but....i need to know
    track 12:
    0:00 to 1:18 wich scene??
    1:19 to 2:58 wich scene???
2:58 to 6:28 wich scene???(I think is not in the movie. Its the "justice theme" played in track 2 and 3 too.But i think in this track is more a track specially composed for the soundtrac)
6:28 to the end is where batman is in one skycapter watching the city.
    thanks!

Cause I'm so obsessed with scores in general, I put together my own Bat-score (own titles), editing and switching tracks to fit the movie...
    1. "Travelling the World" (1-Vespertillo)
    2. "Gotham" (7-Macrotus 0:00-2:08)
    3. "Fatefull Night" (4-Barbastella 0:00-2:48)
    4. "Training" (2-Eptisicus 1:49-end)
    5. "Not Home for Long" (2-Eptisicus 0:00-1:49)
    6. "Vengeance" (7-Macrotus 5:01-end)
    7. "The Test" (7-Macrotus 2:08-5:01)
    8. "What is Necessary" (3-Myotis)
    9. "The Cave" (4-Barbastella 2:48-end)
    10. "Where Are You?!" (5-Artibeus)
    11. "Lighten Up" (6-Tadarida)
    12. "Preparing/Happy Birthday" (9-Nycteris - fits better here, too little snippits of scenes)
    13. "The Chase" (10-Molossus)
    14. "A Narrows Rescue" (8-Antrozous)
    15. "Masks/Rebuilding/Never Have To" (11-Corynorhinus)
    16. "End Credits Suite" (based on movie - Molossus 0:00-3:31, Eptisicus 1:49-end, Macrotus 0:00-2:08, Myotis 3:08-3:53, Lasiurus 2:58-end - tried to find something that sounded closing including the Bruce horns from the actual end credits with a big drum finish, but couldn't get it - Antrozous and Molossus just trail off)
    Thoughts are welcome!

zimmerito - Lasiurus 1:19-2:58 I think is when Bruce meets Ra's at the manor, it's got the same asian motif at least...

Have I already complained about the title? Well, worth saying it again. It sucks.

I like your titles and arrangement. Something that makes sense!

    BMikeJ,

I definitely agree that the album needed more of a closure, and if the credits montage was included, it would have been a much better release (throw in the missing Train Sequence cues as well). At least reprise the action bits from Androzous or Molossus.

Personally, I thought the same problem occurred with Zimmer's recent score releases "The Last Samurai," "King Arthur," and "Spanglish." All albums ended with the less satisfying tracks. Great scores, but they just didn't end on a high note....

Anyone figured out what track 12 is yet? If it's not in the movie, why the heck wouldn't they just put the end credits there instead. Well, possibly because that piece wasn't available during the CD release.

So what's the conclusion on track 8?

The end credit music is just an edit of the cues used in the movie. Since I only saw half of the end credit before walking out, I don't know what cue was featured in the later half.
