I'm making a compilation of all my favourite choral pieces from film scores. The louder the better, and ideally the choir has to be a main feature in the piece, not just background accompaniment.

These are some of the cues I've shortlisted so far... any major omissions? I'm sure there are loads.

Star Wars - DOTF, BOTH, Anakin's Betrayal, Qui-Gon;s Funeral
    Matrix Revolutions - Neodammerung
LOTR - The End of All Things, The Black Gate Opens, Foundations of Stone
Hook - You are the Pan
Empire of the Sun - Cadillac of the Skies
Snow Falling on Cedars - Tarawa
The Lion in Winter - Main Title
The Final Conflict - Main Title
    Van Helsing - Transylvania
Saving Private Ryan - Hymn to the Fallen
Gods and Generals - Gods and Generals
    Titus - Victorius Titus
    Alexander Nevsky - Plescheyevo Lake
    Stargate - Giza, 1928
    Trinity and Beyond - Hiroshima
    Scarlet Letter - Agnus Dei
    Pearl Harbour - 7th December
Lion King - To Die For
    Il mercenario - L'Arena
The Abyss - Bud on the Ledge
    Hamlet - Non Nobis Domine
Murder in the First - Redemption
Edward Scissorhands - The Grand Finale
    Plunkett and Macleane - Hanging/Escape
Kingdom of Heaven - Path to Heaven
The Mission - On Earth as it is in Heaven
    The Messenger - Rex Coronatur
    Glory - Charging Fort Wagner
    Apollo 13 - End Credits
    Finding Neverland - Forgotten Overture
Angels in America - The Infinite Descent
    Beyond Borders - Ethiopia III
The Passion of the Christ - Resurrection
    Conan - Riders of Doom
    1492 - Conquest of Paradise
    Alexander - Titans

There are tons. You may want to cross reference with Silva's Cinema Choral Classics CDs:

Hard to select a track from the following because the whole CD is just about a choral powerhouse (and that there are only two tracks on the CD!):

    Agnes of God, Georges Delerue

Yes Peter I have those 3 great Silva CDs.. in fact that's where I got the idea from - I was hoping to fill my compilation with tracks that weren't on those CDs (hence some of the blatant omissions)

Star Wars - DOTF, BOTH, Anakin's Betrayal, Qui-Gon;s Funeral, The Dark Side Beckons (ok, it's less of a "concert cue", but the choral bit in there is fantastic)

    Hamlet - Non Nobis Domine

    That's Henry V.

    Some I'd add:
    Helm's Deep (from Rosenman's LOTR)
    Waxing Elizabeth (YSH)
    Something from First Knight
    The Ninth Gate
    The Sea Hawk
    Hymn to Red October

NP: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Waxing Elizabeth may be an O Fortuna ripoff, but it's probably the best of those.

I was listening to some of the above cues to see which ones need editing, and was once again impressed by 'The End of All Things' from ROTK. What a superb choral track... Amazing stuff. Hadn't heard this in quite a while.

Agree, can't forget Hymn to Red October
2 things you mnay want to look at:
"Sanctuary" from Hunchback of Notre Dame (Alan Menken)
"Main Title" from Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (Shirley Walker)
If you want to go with Japanese scores as well:
"Voyage to Avalon" from Avalon (Kenji Kawaii)
"Black Escaflowne" from Escaflowne Movie(Yoko Kanno)

Thanks Marian - I made an edit of 'The Dark Side Beckons', which is actually a great addition becuase it is immediately followed by a great rendition of the Emperor's Theme, which is another choral piece which I was trying to fit in somehow.

To be honest (forgive me, Tim!), I barely remember the choral work from those scores. Fine scores though, I just wouldn't put them on a choral compilation.

    p.s.

    Marian,

My computer is almost completely up the duff, I haven't been able to access E-mail for quite some time now.

I thought I'd best let you know and will be in touch when this ruddy thing is replaced in a Month or so.

All right. I haven't been very good at keeping e-mail contacts going recently myself, I have to admit.

Hope your new computer will do better. And I still have your Piano front cover.

    I might play Krull later.

Wow, pretty impressive compilation. Though a choral collection without "Waxing Elisabeth", "Riders of doom" and "Hymn for Red Octorber" is somehow wrong. I would have suggested Morricone's extraordinary "I promessi sposi"(I promessi sposi) and his "Moses theme"(Moses the lawgiver) as well. Uh, and Rozsa's "The lord's prayer"(King of kings) and Delerue's "Libera me"(Black robe). You need to make a 4th disc me thinks.

Oooh! Both among the most outstanding pieces of film music as far as I'm concerned. Ecstasy of Gold pure ecstasy, and Isengard's boy soprano followed by that choir is one of the best events from the LOTR movies.
