I'm fairly certain someone has posted about this before, but since "search" doesn't seem to be working ...
I remember reading this before, but a news article at Yahoo! today confirms that Disney is going ahead with a total of FOUR soundtrack releases for "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" .........
this seems like a ruddy mess.

They are trying to appeal to a Christian audience with the word "Witch" is in the title? This is the type of way my mother says the Devil works.

Four soundtracks?! Did these people learn nothing from "Prince of Egypt"?!

I walked into a record store the other day and (I kid you not) spotted no less than 20 copies of the PoE 'Nashville' album on the shelves. Money-grubbing sons of...!

Look on the bright side...there will be a score CD and it hopefully will not be tied up with the other stuff from the other CDs. Just make sure you READ what you're getting when you walk into the store

Tim, C.S. Lewis was a strong Christian. Don't worry about the "witch" in the title. If you rent the movie Shadowlands, you will see part of his life (and his struggle with faith) with a great score by Fenton.

What a load of crap! I understand a contempory movie having additional pop soundtracks, but Narnia? And what is it with those Christian soundtracks? They really are starting to categorize people according to their beliefs. I thought the world of soundtracks would never be affected.

Despite the impending glut of media attention Disney and Walden hope the releases will net the film, Walden Media VP of Motion Picture Music Lindsay Fellows said their first priority is maintaining the integrity of Lewis' vision: "EMI's team understands this and their musical contributions will have a major impact on his legacy and this amazing film."

Well, I'll wait until closer to the event to form an honest opinion, but it sounds like kind of a goofy idea.

I'm all for giving film music some spotlight, but it does seem like they're trying too hard to "broaden" the appeal here.

At least the score will get a disc all to itself, though.

    NARNIA’s Soundtrack News

Walt Disney Studios and EMI Music have paired up to produce not one but four separate soundtracks for the upcoming adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.

One disc will feature mainstream Christian music artists, another will feature pop and rock acts, a third will provide the score and theme song, written by Harry Gregson-Williams, and the final disc is designed for children...Read more...

This is a GREAT idea! Now we don't have to worry about pop songs -- Christian or otherwise -- cluttering up our score CD, or a kid-geared album with only a few score cues. Instead, we're gauranteed a whole album geared specifically to us score geeks. I'm not complaining!

I agree with Wedge. This way, the score release will be unencumbered by marketing schemes.

Score Release and Special Edition Score Release cover art released.
Special Edition says it comes with a DVD ... and that seems to be it. But it has nicer cover artwork! :P

It actually says a "2 disc CD + DVD" release. Wonder if that means 2 CD's + a DVD.

Not that I'm going to complain, or even say anything bad about Narnia in general...

But it's kind of like combining the religious fervor of "Passion of the Christ" with the fantasy fanaticism of "Lord of the Rings"....

(or "Prince of Egypt" and "Harry Potter"...your mileage may vary.)

From what I understand, the Special Edition with 2 disc is 1 CD and 1 DVD.

I need clips dammit! Besides, I have a funny feeling that HGW - as much as I love the man - will pull a Horner and borrow HEAVILY from his Kingdom of Heaven score; but hopefully it is just a funny feeling.

It could end up being KOH-lite. Or KOH+Shrek+ChickenRun. But I'll wait for the release. When is it?
