You guys probably already know this, but I just found out that a Dark Crystal sequal will begin shooting this fall and will come out in 2007. Supposedly it will be about Jen and Kira (now king and queen), set years after the first movie, and what happens when the crystal cracks again. I was wondering who you guys thought should do the music for this one. I think that Trevor Jones could yet again do okay if he usues themes from the original movie. I also think that Howard Shore would be a very good choice. His work with LOTR shows he can do this type of movie. I also wish that Jerry Goldsmith was still with us. I liked his electronic score stuff for the Star Trek movies. I also like what he had done for Legend, one of my favorite scores. Tell me what you guys think!!

Trevor Jones is pretty much the best choice -- his score for the original is classic, and the material really belongs to him.

You bet...and if the original theme is not used I will riot...somewhere...

How about something totally new by Jones? Wouldn´t that be more exiting?[Message edited by Kris on 05-17-2005]

Of course it would...everything but the main theme. He can feel free to introduce new character or locale themes, but to not use an excellent and integral theme for the story would be silly.

Seems like the production has been cancelled. Ah well, maybe Trevor Jones gets to write something new. It's been too long.

I can't find any info about canceling this project. It's coming out next year.

Followed by this report, that seems to say it's still being made:http://www.darkhorizons.com/news07/070205d.php
If Genndy Tartakovsky's still attached as director, I can't say I find that too thrilling…

Trevor Jones may not be a good pick because his style has changed just like the difference between Batman: TMP and Spiderman w/ Danny Elfman. Listen to Dark Crystal and Cliffhanger you'll see what I mean.

I don't think Cliffhanger is a very good example, for two reasons:1) While there are very few movies altogether that are somewhat similar to The Dark Crystal, Cliffhanger is about as far away as you can possibly get. Those two films would call for very different scores.
2) Cliffhanger was 14 years ago. There's less time in between The Dark Crystal and Cliffhanger than there is between Cliffhanger and now, so it's not a very good indication of how Jones' style has evolved.
The last thing I heard from Trevor Jones that would have called for a score significantly comparable to The Dark Crystal was Merlin -- and on that basis I'd say he's still very much up to the task -- but even Merlin was 9 years ago. Still, Jones seems like a better candidate for a Dark Crystal sequel than anyone else I can think of.
