Saturday 7 May 2005, 7.30pmCinema Presentation: King Vidor's The Crowd
Legendary director King Vidor shows us in The Crowd - made in 1928 - an ordinary American's journey through life. The film broke many of Hollywood's rules and was only payrolled because of Vidor's reputation as a movie-maker. The story is of a man determined to succeed - to stand out from the crowd - but the odds are stacked massively against him.
This silent masterpiece will be shown on the Hallé big screen, with the Orchestra performing Carl Davis's jazz-inspired score live on stage. A cinematic and musical event not to be missed.
'The Crowd is as much a landmark movie as Napoléon and ranks as one of the most moving documents ever made' (The Guardian).

I'd love to see one of those Carl Davis events live.
