Thought some of you might find this interesting, wish Mark McKenzie was asked, but I'm looking forward to it.<<Jerry Goldsmith was going to score the music for this film but died before filming was complete. The unfinished score he had already written is now being adapted and completed by composer William Ross and will retain Goldsmith's themes for the film.>>

Hmm, interesting.I'd heard from another source that Ross started from scratch and Jerry had only been able to do some demos before his passing.
The trailer lists Ross as the sole composer as well (not sure if this means anything in terms of adaptations, though).
Great news if that's the case though! Anspaugh seemed to bring out some true inspirado from Goldsmith.

Of course I have to ask: where did you hear this?

Hasn't this already been proven as false?I know the IMDB had this listed but you know by know you can't take anything it says seriously.
From what's been said I get the impression he was too ill to even begin composing.
It's been suggested that perhaps all Goldsmith did was provide some previously written music as ideas to the musical direction he might take.

It also contains themes by John Powell, with additional music by James McKee-Smith and Ramin Djawadi.Ryan

I think it's just wishful thinking by somebody over at the IMDB. Like Mark said, all other sources suggest that Goldsmith perhaps offered a few demo cues but nothing that made it into the film.

From the Roger Ebert column:quote:
The soundtrack could have used big-band hits from the period, but William Ross' score (based on themes by Jerry Goldsmith, who died during production) is so inspirational, it belongs in a commercial.

I read that too. Hope Varese releases it or something.--Brian

Unfortunately, Ford Thaxton has said over on the FSM board that there are no plans at present for a CD release.

...and Ford Thaxton is still pretty adamant over at FSM's board saying that Goldsmith contributed nothing to the score.[Message edited by jonathan_little on 04-22-2005]

Jerry Goldsmith clearly did not contribute any original music to this movie. But you can bet his music for HOOSIERS and RUDY were all over the temp track.

Goldsmith is in that score in spirit, and that alone is satisfying to know.

Perhaps there IS a use of RUDY/HOOSIERS in the film because the Hollywood Reporter review also lists the music credit to Goldsmith AND Ross.

Someone on the FSM board posted this link quite a while ago to an interview with the movie's director, who discusses the extent of Goldsmith's work on the film (very little):
http://www.epinions.com/content_4287275140(You'll need to scroll about two-thirds of the way down to get to the music part of the interview.)
By the way, USA TODAY gave this movie a lukewarm (and that's probably being generous) review at best. If that's typical of the critical reaction, and the movie disappears from sight quickly, I suppose that makes a score CD release even less likely. I would guess all we can hope for is a promo someday. . .
