Just noticed the news from last week that Annemarie North, widow of Alex North, passed away in her mid-60s. A lot can be said of her love of music and what she's done for film music appreciation, although I've scoured the 'net and find no news, not even at FSM (the place where it's all supposedly happening according to those who come here and post when FSM is down!).Thankfully, on Varese Sarabande's site:
"Varèse Sarabande Records mourns the passing of a truly remarkable woman. Annemarie Hoellger North died at her home in Pacific Palisades, Friday March 4, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born in Berlin in 1940 and came to America in 1967. Prior to her marriage to renowned composer Alex North, she managed the Symphonie Orchester Graunke in Munich, Germany. Mrs. North was a passionate supporter of the arts and worked exhaustively to promote the appreciation of film music as an independent art form. Anna North was truly one of the great ladies of film music and will be dearly missed."
Anyone have any experiences they can share regarding Anna North, or even Alex for that matter?

For more, here's some ground...See her picture here with John Mauceri in 2001.
For those who have Varese's re-recording of North's unused score for 2001, Anna North's words to the orchestra before the recording are included in the liner notes.

What a pity Annemarie North's passing could have not have been noticed here without an unseemly dig at FSM.[Message edited by Ron Pulliam on 03-14-2005]

Ron, as expected. No thoughts on North from you, but deeper digs on FSM vs MM. I don't care where the news comes from, and I am glad Ford Thaxton found it after reading here and posted it to FSM. At least he did the right thing. We need more classy film music ladies like Anna North.

Ron, stop editing your post so I can reply with something that makes sense! Your idea of an "unseemly dig" was in hopes that those who were previously referred to might actually post the news... and! gasp! that Ford Thaxton, that crazy evil dude who hates MovieMusic more than fear itself, actually took the news and passed it on to FSM. Thank you Ford.

Peter: Once again, you choose to use your own failings and turn them on someone who calls you out on them.YOU are the one who disresepcted Anna North's memory with your pointless dig at FSM.
Why are you so obsessed with that site.
Maestro North's memory is not the issue here...it's that you used her death to take a cheap shot.
It's that and only that.
I'm totally disgusted by it...and now, by you.
I hate this pettiness and I'll never post here again.

I'd also like to thank Ford and apologize; somehow this missed our 24 hour news cycle. But we'll have more in the next print issue, promise.

Classic parting shot, Ron.Criticism is free for anyone to use (at least in America), and if it gets the results I've intended by it in this case, excellent. If criticism is met with abjection like Ron's, that's part of the risk the critic must accept. I am sorry people exist who praise a place for its omniscience, yet fire off blame elsewhere when said place misses something. On the other hand, I am relieved by Jeff Bond's acknowledgment and promise. Jeff represents the FSM I admire.
God bless Anna North, may she rest in peace.

From a disinterested 3rd party with no ax to grind: I did not detect any slight in the original post. Took it as more of a backhanded compliment to the powers that be over at d'udder place.

I frequent both boards as well, and I'm glad to see this kind of information exchanged and shared.
And so as not to stray from the subject at hand, bless dear Anna, and many condolences to Alex and family and friends.
