It appears Zimmer will be scoring the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels....

    What you thinks?

Cool news i just hope he uses the same themes Badelt and Zimmer came up with in the first movie.

As long as he overproduces it again as he did last time, I'm all for it.

Pirates was one of the most enjoyable scores of recent (1-3 years) memory.

Excellent! This is exactly the kind of news I want to hear! Peter, you say "sequels." How many of these movies are they going make?

At least two. Dead Man's Chest opens in July 06, and from what I've read, the two sequels will be filmed at the same time (a la Back to the Future II and III) from March 05 to Jan 06 to save on production costs (like they need to save on anything for this treasure chest).

Although I don't prefer PotC as a standalone listen, it worked in the first movie, and I imagine it will fit comfortably in the sequels.

There's a lot more crazy stuff here:
    http://comingsoon.net/news/piratesnews.php?id=4739

Keith Richards will be Jack Sparrow's dad.... uhh, perfect. Now we're sure to get a Rolling Stones song on the CD, or at least an electric rock guitar theme for him in the movie!

I would be curious to hear an Alan Silvestri or a Don Davis or a John Williams or a Basil Poledouris pirate score, but Zimmer will do. Just take your time this time Zimzims.

Why is the news that Zimmer (et. al. -- and you know it will be more than just him so don't give me a hard time about saying it) scoring these sequels or ANY Jerry Bruckheimer production some sort of surprise?

A REAL surprise would be someone other than a Zimmer or associate doing them.

    It's just news, really. I ain't surprised.

But why isn't Badelt scoring? Lots of rumors can get started just on rhis idea, starting with an envious Hans Zimmer who missed out on some big composer royalties the first time around! How nice of him to want all of that for himself and not invite Badelt back for duty.

While the rumor mill churns... I hear Badelt's kept in reserve for emergency tinkering mostly these days. That's where the real upfront cash is for short spurts of work.

From the title of this thread I was thinking that Zimmer was down to score the PASSION OF THE CHRIST sequels.

yes, he is scoring Passion of the Christ: Resurrection and Passion of the Christ: Retribution.
I heard Badlet will score the Passion of the Christ spin-off mega Bruckheimer produced fim "Ark" directed by Michael Bay and starring Eric Bana based on Noah's Ark.

Zimmer has said he wrote music for PIRATES, so why is this a surprise that if he is available he'd score the sequels?

I think it's been established that it isn't much of a surprise.

Zimmer did write music for Pirates, but not as a primary composer.
