THE DEADLY SPAWN—Original Motion Picture Score

New Record Label Specializes in Hard-to-Find Soundtrack Recordings With Bonus Material

(February 8, 2005- New York, NY) Perseverance Records announces the release of THE DEADLY SPAWN—Original Motion Picture Score, composed by Michael Perilstein. The title, available in stores on February 22, 2005 and currently available at www.perseverancerecords.com, features score from the cult legend horror classic plus a newly recorded 12-minute suite.

Recently released on DVD, the cult classic THE DEADLY SPAWN boasts special effects and creatures by John Dods (THE X-FILES: FIGHT THE FUTURE, SPOOKIES, MONSTERS TV). A group of campers stumble upon the remnants of a meteorite and discover some fanged, worm-like creatures have hitched a ride to Earth. After the camper “appetizer,” the alien spawn take refuge in the basement of an isolated house… and get ready for the main course!

THE DEADLY SPAWN was composer Michael Perilstein’s third film score. He has scored other cult classics, including HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS and WHERE EVIL LIVES. He has also released several concept albums including Godzilla Vs. Your Mother. Perilstein participated in the reissue of THE DEADLY SPAWN, contributing a new track, Spawn, But Not Forgotten.

THE DEADLY SPAWN is the fourth of a series of cult classic science fiction/horror recordings released by Perseverance Records, preceded by INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (Denny Zeitlin), THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES (Basil Kirchin), and DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN (John Gale).

INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, Jack Finney’s classic science fiction novel, has been made into film three times. The acclaimed 1978 version starred Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams, and featured an ensemble cast that included Jeff Goldblum and Leonard Nimoy. Best known in the jazz world where he has recorded over 30 albums, composer Denny Zeitlin went a bit more electronic-acoustic for this score.

The king of horror films, Vincent Price played the title role in both THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES and DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN, the latter was Price’s 100th film role. Because of ownership changed for both films, much of the original music masters have disappeared through the years. Both composers thankfully were in possession of some of the music, which allowed these two never-before released soundtrack recordings to be pieced together.

Founded in 2002, Perseverance Records is a small label with a big mission. Producer Robin Esterhammer, himself a soundtrack fan, launched the label in 2002 to release soundtracks from cult and obscure films that collectors request. All recordings receive deluxe treatment, including in-depth liner notes and expanded versions of the music if material is available. Esterhammer describes himself as “a soundtrack fan working on behalf of my peers”.
