A certain prepared for a certain special someone. Alas - this took several hours of difficult choosing to come down to this track selection. The final product incl. no Doyle, Williams, Horner, Zimmer, Convertino, Kilar, Jarre, Barry, Delerue (!!! - I lent Joe vs the Volcano to someone else last week - I needed it! Same with Bliss!). Rota's Romeo and Juliet was one of the last candidates to get dropped, and Yared's love theme for Achilles and Briseis will similarly have to wait for a future Valentine's Day. (As will about 10 more that made the shortlist, incl. Mike Figgis' Max and Karen from One Night Stand and Cyril Morin's Tashi's Theme from Samsara, the latter only being cut because I couldn't find the right place on the CD for it.) Some odd choices, but I think it will work on the target audience, and it's not a bad fly-by of romantic film music, if overly-skewed to the present, and with overmuch emphasis on a particular genre at the end.

    1. Robin and Maid Marian (Korngold, from The Adventures of Robin Hood - Marco Polo) (six minute cue)
    2. Goodnight, Peter Darling (Newman, from A Man Called Peter - FSM)
    3. Love Theme (Rosza, from El Cid, performed by City of Prague Philharmonic)
    4. The Way we Were (Hamlisch, from The Way We Were, instrumental performed by City of Prague)
    5. A New Love (Goldsmith, from Under Fire - OST)
    6. Wifeing (Poledouris, from Conan the Barbarian - OST)
    7. Marian at the Waterfall (Kamen, from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - OST)
    8. Cora (Edelman, from Last of the Mohicans - OST)
    9. First Love (Elfman, from Somersby - OST)
    10. Without the Words (Yared, from Cold Mountain - OST)
    11. Haunted - Suite (Edit, Wiseman, from Something There - rerecording)
    12. Playing Love (Piano) (Morricone, from The Legend of 1900 - OST)
    13. Love is Good! (Burwell, from Intolerable Cruelty - OST)
    14. Don Juan (Kamen, from Don Juan de Marco - OST)
    15. Mathilde's Theme (Badalamenti, from A Very Long Engagement - OST)
    16. The Vote (Newton-Howard, from The Village)
    17. For the World (Tan Dun, from Hero - OST)
    18. Lovers (Umebayashi, from House of Flying Daggers - OST)
    19. Yearning for the Sword (Tan Dun, from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - OST)
    20. Farewell (Tan Dun, from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - OST)

Total Disc Time - about 78 minutes and 26 seconds. It's quite a nice listen actually. There is a strange shape to it all, but a shape nonetheless. And it never gets too dark, though the last third tends to be less fun than the first two.

Hopefully there'll be plenty of future occasions to give the same person plenty of CDs of love themes in years to come.

Perfect timing. I was about to press 'burn' on a similar CD myself, but you reminded me about a few omissions such as Cold Mountain and Mohicans.

Glad to see Legend of 1900 in there - essential stuff.
