Does anyone know what the song is that plays during the trailer? It's the main theme, but orchestral, not synthesized (and no singing).

    Uhhh..?
Could you be more specific, please? The Phantom of the Opera has been filmed at least eight times...

But if you mean Lloyd Webber's recent movie version, unfortunately I haven't seen the trailer ...but I have seen the movie quite many times.

BTW, I myself contacted the Really Useful Group (Lloyd Webber's company) in hopes that they could shed some light on the subject why the orchestral score segments of "Learn To Be Lonely" were not included on the 2-disc "Special Edition" soundtrack (not to mention the one-disc "Highlights" album). I simply don't understand what Mr. Lloyd Webber has been thinking with this 2-Disc "Special Edition" which includes the new Main Title leading to the prologue (and over seven minutes of mere dialogue from the "Hannibal" rehearsal) BUT does NOT include the beautiful Graveyard Finale ("Learn To Be Lonely" variation) and neither the full orchestral version of that particular theme. I say it once again; it's one of the most loveliest melodies ever to come from Lloyd Webber's pen and it's a big big shame that he himself doesn't understand to give this gorgeous creation the release it deserves.

Just when I thought that there was hope in contemporary movie music, Andrew Lloyd Webber - of all the people - joined the brainless money-making soundtrack business of today.

It appears Beyonce Knowles will be performing 'Learn to be Lonely' at the Oscars. (according to the news section at IMDB.com)

I agree Ken. I won't buy the 2 discs since it doesn't have the music I wanted.

The trailers I've seen play an orchestral version of the song Phantom of the Opera and then ends with That's All I Ask Of You.

So the soundtrack doesn't have the orchestral version of the overture? Weak.

Ummmmmmmm... the "Overture" (an instrumental version of "The Phantom of the Opera" song) from Lloyd Webber's Phantom has always been an orchestral one, even though the original London cast recording uses evidently a synthesized organ. The movie organ sounds like a real one.

This "Overture" IS included on both movie soundtrack albums.

Watch the above trailer, and about 2/3 of the way through notice how a variation of the theme/overture begins (with a trombone chorus), but there is no organ...is that on the soundtrack?

Sorry about all this confusion. I just can't get that song out of my head, and I HATE that organ.

The music in the trailer is indeed included on the soundtrack (the 2-disc version at least). It begins in the track "The Point Of No Return/Chandelier Crash" shortly after the Phantom sings, "Christine, that's all I ask of...". The difference is that the trailer did not have dialogue/sound effects over the top of it.

I am a huge fan of the musical and now the film version. However, I'm sure I am not the only one who would like (no offence to the performers) to have a purely orchestral version of this fantastic score available in addition to the movie soundtrack/original cast recordings.

Thanks, that was really helpful...I agree that a purely orchestral score would be really nice.

Glad to see I am not alone then

I really hope the DVD has an isolated score track, but I doubt it...
