Edelman did a really good job on this and almost everything since has been a letdown. I hear parts of his Gettysburg score in just about everythings hes done since then. Has it really been almost 12 years since this came out. Man, time does fly.

On the two CD set, the second CD is mostly same themes reworked but some of them are quite good. I like the one with the final charge.

    Take it easy, you all.

    J.

I was in 7th grade...I remember listening to the score on tape while I was at Gettysburg that year.

I have mixed feelings about the music for Gettysburg... I really like the main theme, which has always been this composer's strong suit, and find the bulk of the score not very interesting away from the film. It's been awhile since I listened but I remember the score having a lot of electronic elements that just didn't seem appropriate for this kind of film. It should've been an orchestral score. I think the producers rectified this by hiring John Frizzell to write a more appropriate score for Gods & Generals.

True Mike, but I still like the score and even though some of it is indeed annoying and out of place, I still think its his main masterpiece score. If you can call it that. Anyway, the only one of his I really think is pretty good.

There are two scores by this composer that I really enjoy. They are for smaller scale films. One is for Passion Of Mind, a Demi Moore film from a few years back. The other is for an Alan Parker film starring Dennis Quaid set in the 1940s. The title eludes me... There is one piece of music there, in particular, that has turned up in many trailers. What is the name of that film... Come See The Paradise... Anyhow, I like these scores because Edelman doesn't seem to be using his trademark electronics and went for a more acoustic sound.

Agreed. I liked the basic themes of the entire score, but the use of synth was unfortunate. Originally played it a lot, but haven't for a long time now.

Great main theme, and although I tire easily of the rest, it does work well within the film.

For those that like this score and Edelman's approach to the material, check out his score for THE HUNLEY, a film about the first Civil War era submarine.

Hunley is ok but nothing special. Come See the Paradise is nice. Like that one.

    Thanks, J

Edelman did the best job he could with the limited budget, and time constraints he had at the time

Hunley was a so so effort, as was the film.

And I still do. All I'm saying is that the rest of the score (other than the main theme) is better listening to within the context of the film than without.
