Yeah, I know. It's just a quasi-legit "promo", can't expect too much (except to pay a lot). But I have to say I'm not entirely happy with the sound quality. It has a somewhat strident sound that is grating after a while.I noticed when loading the tracks into a sound editor that they are clipped all over the place. This is not necessarily the cause of my discomfort, but it's not a good sign. There are also some audible "pops".
Anyone have the original commercial release to compare?

By original commercial release, you are referring to the vinyl/cassette release, right? It was not released on CD at that time.

I thought the 2CD has several sources, including an LP.The sound on the second disc is actually decent ("Stop! She's Alive/Pastries & Crypts" [or "Crpypts" as it is spelt on the inlay] sounds great esp.), with the exception of "Waxing Elizabeth", which sounds like the LP and unfortunately has been glued together with "Diversionary Tactics". Is it just me or should that choral bit finish the track and just fade to silence like nature intended?
Either way I'mvery happy to have this 2CD set, thank you to "whoever" for putting it together!

Oh, okay. So it was cobbled together from "various sources"? That figures. It's a hack job.So we still need a REAL release of this nice music.

A hack job? You shouldn't judge so hastily. For all we know, those "various sources" it was "cobbled together" from might in fact be the only sources available.Kirk

And let's not forget this was produced by the composer to promote his work. I would think that he provided the elements for the set. I think it sounds good except for the occasional pop. And we know how to get rid of those, don't we, my Cid...

When I say it was put together by various sources I mean it was put together by various sources available from the composer and Intrada. They didn't dig around in flea markets for master tapes...Ryan

I also have the Intrada version. I can't hear any problems with it. I also have the 2 CD other version too. More music there, but just variations on a theme, including an orchestral version of 'Waxing Elizabeth'.
As for a REAL release, I wouldn't hold my breath over this. I think it's the Intrada CD or nothing with Paramount.

Bitch...bitch...bitch!The alternative was to have nothing.
Or not to buy it.
And if you have it and "hate it," you can get a fortune for it by selling it on EBay.
It's all there will ever be from this score for a long, long time (and the original elements may or may not EXIST any more).
But by all means, bitch some more about it.

There is always the choice. To buy or not to buy. Me? I'm happy with both versions and have no intention of selling either.

The 2-CD YSH promo is fantastic -- I'm with Ron on this one. To say that the work on the discs is sloppy, or that its assembly is a "hack job" -- that's just silly. A lot of hard work went into preparing that set, whether it was done legitimately or not. It was a labor of love. The folks who put it together are as passionate about Bruce's music as much as any of us, if not more so. They wouldn't have done anything less than the best they could. Those are my two cents.

Jeron,I would not have said anything if I had only my subjective impression. But the clipping is hard, objective, indisputable fact.
Anyway, back to the original question. Does anyone have the original commercial release (on LP or cassette) to compare?
