I just seen this movie the other day at my brothers house. It is an animated movie along the lines of finale fantasy, only I liked this one better than the spirits within. Kaena has outstanding animation, a decent storyline stars Kirsten Dunst, Richard Harris, and Anjelica Houston. It has one of the most awesome scores I have heard in a long time, by a composer I've never heard of Farrid Russlan, with full orchestra and choir.

My question is does anybody know where I can get my hands on this score. The back of the dvd has soundtrack available on La Bande Son records, which I have never heard of. I have checked every music retailer within a 20 mile radius of me, no has it, and I've searched online, I cant find it anywhere. The movie was released in 2003, so I would think I would be able to find something on it, but so far zip. I must have this score it is outstaning.
    any help would be appreciated.

La Bande Son is a french soundtrack label, part of the Universal Music group.

You can find the KAENA CD here :

Since the movie was a French production, the first thing to do is search Amazon.fr. Lo and behold:

Thanks alot guys, one of the music stores around here said they might be able to special order it for me, if they cant, at least I know where I can order it. Again I highly recomend this to anyone who likes magical, and adventurous type music with full orchestra, and chorus, the sound clips dont really do it full justice. Thanks again guys.

    Lancer,

How is the animation on this film? Up to par with Final Fantasy Spirits Within or can you tell it was rushed? Been meaning to check this movie out. I also heard the score is great.

(Ah, computer animation--my field!) The animation is great, but the story/plot is highly lacking in forward movement. This is France's first feature-length computer animation, and the commendable thing is, they did it all on one animation package that==since starting the feature--has been outdated by 2 iterations. Many companies might panic and try to update, and then go back and re-do, but these guys persevered on one package alone.

Characters look decent, with the except of the "evil" sap-like creatures, whose scenes are very murky and dark, so much that they actually obscure the models.

One of the more impressive features on the DVD is a "live interview" with Kaena, the "actress"--the animation on that sequence is quite good.

Thanks man! I think I will pick this up from your recommendation alone. I collect most all CG movies so this one is a definite add. If you haven't seen the previews for Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, you're in for a treat. I believe it hits DVD in the US Feb of 2005.

I would suggest picking this one up, if you liked the spirits within. The animation is about the same for the most part, but I think some of the atmospheres are even better than final fantasy. Again I cant speak enough about the score it's great.

Sorry about the delay in response to your question, it takes a little time, when you work three seperate jobs.

I think the voice talent helps to take this film to another level. Richard Harris gives a really good performance.

The composer has a personnal website :
    http://www.faridrusslan.com/

Some excerpts of the KAENA movie, with the little-too-big (IMO) Farid Russlan's music - there :
    http://www.faridrusslan.com/Media/DemomusicKaena.htm

And there are other interesting demos on the "WORK" page.
