I caught the last 45 minutes of the Scott Glenn version of Man on Fire(music by John Scott) last night on cable and was struck by the familiarity of the main theme.During the end credits it hit me...Die Hard. The same theme is heard in the scene where McClane and his wife emerge from the building and meet Sgt.Al Powell, who McClane has talked to but not seen until that point. Not to belittle Michael Kamen's obvious talent, but was this theme sampled for Die Hard(as was Singin' in the Rain)?I've always been struck by how similar the followup scene cue to this(as presumed dead terrorist Karl is killed for good by Powell)is to James Horner's Aliens music.Any thoughts?

    Wilbur,

This is an old topic that you probably haven't read about.

A track from "Aliens" by James Horner and a track from "Man on Fire" by John Scott were used at the end of "Die Hard." Kamen scored the film but those two tracks were left in and Kamen did not write music for those scenes.

Thanks,James.I guess the 1987 Man on Fire wasn't a total loss after all.
