I called up and ordered one today. They arrive there in a week and then get shipped out. The CBS Westerns disc is available from them as well. SAE is supposed to have some (or did and ran out) and Buy Soundtrax lists them as well. But calling up & ordering direct is a bit cheaper.

If anyone has seen the film or heard the suite that was issued on a German CD (also the cue Gerhardt conducted and the original suite from the 40s narrated by Sabu), you'll know that this is one of Rozsa's most colorful scores. It's not quite in the same league as Thief of Bagadad, but similar, and it has some great themes and action cues and in giving motifs to each of the jungle creatures it becomes a kind of Carnival of the Animals a la Rozsa.

[Rozsa's "orientalism" period covers a fistful of films from the early 40s: Thief of Bagdad, The Jungle Book, Sundown, Jacare, and a few others. Sundown is actually a neat WW2 film with George Sanders & Gene Tierney that can still be found on vhs. Jacare is a Jack Buck documentary set in South America available from Sinister Cinema.]

Why The Jungle Book didn't appear at the same time as Citadel was issuing LPs from other 40s Rozsa acetates is a bit of a mystery. Maybe Rozsa didn't have copies and no one knew where they were or sought them out to issue them (the film is in the public domain so they easily could have). But no matter, they are here and I'm looking forward to finally hearing the film version over the suite versions.
