It really is quite a classy score, despite the film it is for. The strongest moments are in the first half of the album, whereas the second half doesn't have anything new to offer. Like "Timeline," the last track is abrupt and unsatisfying (some of the other tracks end much the same), however there's impressive material. The layers of repeating motifs and ideas, both in electronics and orchestra, encourage repeated listening. This has been in my player for longer than I expected.
It is somewhat reminiscent to moments of Kamen's "Event Horizon," except since Danna did both the electronics and orchestra, they are more seamlessly combined. There's even what sounds like a nod to Beltrami's brief melancholy theme from the original, only tweaked and expanded, adding a stronger emotional element to the score.
Moreso than 'Alien Versus Predator' or 'Anacondas 2,' this B-movie score merits the release and deserves a tad more attention.
