So far, these are the ten scores that have impressed me the most this year..In no particular order... except the top 3.
• The Passion of the Christ (John Debney) my choice right now as score of the year!
• Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (John Williams)
• Hidalgo (James Newton Howard)
• Hellboy (Marco Beltrami)
• King Arthur (Hans Zimmer)
• Van Helsing (Alan Silvestri)
• Steamboy (Steve Jablonsky)
• Miracle (Mark Isham)
• The Terminal (John Williams)
• Paycheck (John Powell)-Erik-
PS - If Yared's score to Troy was still in the film, that would be the score of the year! And I need to hear Sky Captain a few more times before I make my decision on Shearmur's score.

Most impressed with The Village, Van Helsing and Vanity Fair. "V" is the "it" letter this year, I suppose.Lots has already been said about Village and Van Helsing. Vanity Fair is not only one of the better scores of the year, it's one of Mychael Danna's most accessible, most boisterous, most yearning, most classical score he's ever written. There are a lot of right words to use to describe it... you'll have yours when you hear it. Even the bigoted classical music buff (oh, excuse me, "connoisseur") should admit a liking to this bastard film music!
