Oh well, I assume these are simple reissues of the RCA "Special Edition" albums. Beyond the new packaging is there anything new? Here's an (unasked-for) suggestion for Sony & Lucasfilm: put "Lapti-Nek" and the original "Ewok Celebration" on the ROTJ cd as bonus tracks.

Well I see from the link, that the artwork is tied into the new DVD release. I much prefer the RCA editions that used the Struzan artwork (even though I don't have those versions myself.) I just can't see spending more money for the same thing I already have just to have different packaging.James

I agree totally. Drew's art for the Special Editions is way ahead of the uniform key art for the new dvds.

And of course, the artwork of the original series isn't the same as the artwork for the soundtracks to Episodes 1 and 2, so we can expect those CDs to be re-released sometime soon with a cover to match the DVD cover...I say just sit back and wait a few decades until Lucas has finished tinkering and then we can finally buy the sealed, complete, uber-final editions of everything.

...if he ever really does finish tinkering. A constant stream of reissues and repackagings could fund Lucasfilm well into the NEXT century.

Are they going to fix that really bad mix that RCA produced of The Empire Strikes Back?

I know this isn't music related, but I hope he finally fixes in the new dvd version the Rancor scene. It still looks horrible. Big time projection. Looks like Luke is in front of a screen, which he is.

They have actually fixed that after all these years for the DVD release. The Rancor scene has been cleaned up considerably. Unfortunately, Hayden Christensen's head has indeed been put on top of Sebastian Shaw's for this realease along with some other tweaks.Re: The Music
They look good, and if they have remastered them again or added any bonus stuff I'll be on board

Yeah, but what about the even worse RCA Jedi set? That'll I buy again if they fix it. Will they? No.Shaun

I see Sony and Lucas have both graduated from Greedy Bastards University and majored in How To Piss Off You Fan Base: 101.

I was debating wether or not to post...but I wrote Lucas Licensing regarding the complete score for AOTC, and they wrote me back saying they do want to release the score (which is finished by the way), but with costs for the Soundtrack market these days (basically how much it costs to release a soundtrack) it's kind of impossible...which I think is kind of b.s. Because this just proves with Sony releasing this box set doesn't cost that much. Perhaps they're holding out til either just before Ep III's release, or after...Lucas Licensing said it is an important objective of theirs to release the 2-disc set for AOTC, but I guess it's just a matter of when they'll release it...so we'll be seeing it some day, we just gotta be paitent and wait. I too really want the 2-disc set for AOTC really bad. And I'm sure they'll eventually release a 2-disc set for Ep III's score when the time is right after it's been written and the OST's been released.
And the reason why they're releasing these scores is to help premote the Original Trilogy DVD set (which I plan on buying). And they said next year the Ep III OST will be released...so my theory is that with Lucas Licensing having the 2-disc set for AOTC done..sometime after the OST for Ep III's been released (probably later next year) they'll most likely end up releasing the 2-disc set for AOTC. Then probably sometime after Ep III's been out on DVD they'll release the 2-disc set for that score as well most likely sometime in 2006. I don't think they'll stop releasing the 2-disc sets for the Star Wars music with the Original Trilogy...it doesn't make any sense...I doubt Lucas would deny us music fans to hear Episode II and III's music in it's complete form. But again it's just a theory...and would be nice if it held up..

Costs? COSTS??? Lucas's pocket change could pay for it!If Lucas really cared, he would help.

Well I'm sure we'll eventually see the 2-disc set for AOTC...then Ep III's 2-disc set when the time is right espically after the score's been written and when the OST has been released...and I had a distinct feeling that Sony would be re-releasing the Original Trilogy scores espically ever since they took over the Star Wars music license. But as I stated before about the costs for releasing a soundtrack...I smelt b.s. as well for what I was told in my reply letter. But have no fear...the 2-disc set for AOTC is done...it's just a matter of WHEN they'll release it...and Lucas Licensing said in an online interview last year that they doubt we'd have to wait 15 years for it to be release like with the Original Trilogy Collectors Editions (laser etched) sets...and it's verry possible that maybe in 2-3 years we'll probably end up seeing a 12 disc box set containing all 6 2-disc scores...
Trent
Edit: I highly doubt Lucas would stop releasing the 2-disc sets for the Star Wars scores at the Original Trilogy...espically when he knows it will bring him more money for the Star Wars line...and as I stated earlier that the 2-disc set for AOTC is finished...it'll be released...just gotta have paitence and wait for it...and the wait will be well worth it...

I mean....we have the 2-disc set for Ep I, and eventually for Ep II and Ep III. And we're going to be re-getting the 2-disc sets for Ep's IV-VI. I seriously doubt Lucas would stop the line right at the Original Trilogy....I don't think he'd deny us music fans from having the 2-disc sets from all 6 films...Trent
Edit: Here's the original story for the Original Trilogy sets being re-released...

That link claims that "The recordings have been newly remastered using Sony Music's DSD (Direct Stream Digital) multichannel surround sound."Oh, do they know what buttons to push.

There will be man....it's just a matter of when it will be released. The 2-disc set is finished. And as I stated above if you read my lengthy post that it's an important objective for Lucas Licensing. So I seriously suspect that we'll have it soon and eventually have all 6 scores in 2-disc forms.Trent
