    I, Robot - Marco Beltrami
Not as good as his score for Hellboy; along the same lines as Terminator 3.

The Village - James Newton Howard

    King Arthur - Hans Zimmer
    Standard above-average Zimmer action scoring.

    Thunderbirds - Hans Zimmer

    Spider-Man 2 - Danny Elfman

    Steamboy - Steve Jablonsky
Japanese import for a recent animation movie. My only previous experience with Jablonsky is his score for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - and I wasn't too keen on that one. This score here hasn't been out of the player much since I received it from Ark Square. Some audio clips available here: http://www.hans-zimmer.com/fr/disco_detail.php?id=446

    Collateral (James Newton Howard)
Probably the most rewarding purchase thus far. It is a fascinating mix of traditional score, with songs that works wonders on CD. I'm sure it'll be used well in the film. Howard's score is very rock oriented and blends in with all the other styles to create a very aural experience.

    The Bourne Supremacy
Powell has grown considerably since his first score for this series. Here, we get a very nice update of past material and some of the new skill he's learned. Nice to finally have the Moby song as well. The GOA theme is very ethnic in tone, and along with the other new leimotifs and themes, creates a much more accessible score.

    Man on Fire
Good stuff. Check out my review on the site if you're interested (screwed up the track numbers though...sorry!)

    On their way...
    Tombstone by Bruce Broughton
    Night Crossing by Jerry Goldsmith

    On order:

Un difetto di famiglia (Ennio Morricone)
The Conformist (Georges Delerue)/ A Man's Tragedy (Ennio Morricone)

    more coming probably

Purchasing has been inspired by you know who lately, with a handful of these from some second hand stores:

    Islands in the Stream (Goldsmith)
    Papillon (Goldsmith)
The Sand Pebbles (Goldsmith, rerecording and expanded - the first used and the second after hearing the first)
    Wild Rovers (Goldsmith, FSM)
    Raggedy Man (Goldsmith)
    Tora! Tora! Tora! (Goldsmith, FSM)
Two Days in the Valley (Goldsmith, rejected)
Fairy Tale: A True Story (Preisner)
    Moby Dick (Sainton; Marco Polo)
    Matchstick Men (Zimmer et al)
    Goodbye Lenin (Tiersen)
The Treasure of Sierra Madre (Steiner; Marco Polo)

And by trading my exposure to Broughton has quadrupled overnight, with Silverado, Tombstone, Homeward Bound, Heart of Darkness and True Women coming by mail from a discerning collector. I like Broughton a lot, and finally understand the fuss over him not receiving good scoring assignments.

We have TONS of them. Great score, but many people didn't want to take a chance on an unknown score. Big orchestra, pretty aggressive action music. Great patriotic main theme.

Harald Kloser/Thomas Wanker THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

HOMEWARD BOUND: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY (Bruce Broughton) - This is good. Typically tuneful Broughton in Americana mode. Hints of Williams, but even more hints once again of Goldsmith. I think that Bruce Broughton has been HUGELY influenced by Jerry Goldsmith in much of his work. Here, the gentler passages recall "Kick the Can" from TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE, whilst there is much of THE MUMMY in the energetic string writing of the more vibrant moments.

But Broughton is still Broughton, and I'll enjoy this new one again more than once.

    Timmer,

    Rombi is EXCELLENT. Highly recommended.

I'd say the Francois Ozon films CD ("Swimming Pool," "Under the Sand," etc.) is his best work. Very classical, sort of like Sarde at his best.

I also love "Jeux D'enfants" which is basically a score of a theme and variations with different versions of "La Vie En Rose" thrown in.

"Une Hirondell a Fait Le Printemps" is also quite nice, but the cues are short (although sequenced close together) and there are some songs.

    Rombi is one to watch.

    James

    Graham, how can you claim
    that Broughton's HOMEWARD BOUND
    has elements borrowed from Goldsmith's
THE MUMMY? Check your dates, man!

    You're right Graham. However, I'll
wriggle out of that one by saying
    that those string figures had
    appeared already in Goldsmith's
RAMBO 3 back in 88. And THAT was
    the inspiration for the Broughton
    track.

Glad you cleared that up, Graham.
Some people may think that you'd
    made another huge FO PAH!

No fears, Graham. We were on wide
screen, so the fo pah was missed
    by all.

Just as well, Graham. See you around
    the Board!

    Rather!

Graham, you DID make a big nincompoop phoe paah. The influence behind the Broughton piece was certainly from well before RAMBO 3.
Goldsmith was doing this thing back in the 70s with THE WIND AND THE LION.

Crumbs, Graham! Must get my facts straight!

Anyway, went to buy veg today. A lettuce, an aubergine and some peppers. In the crate also was HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS (JW, adapted by William Ross). 6 euros. Very good, though I fell asleep at one part. Will try it again when more wide awake.

    The Punisher
After I realized it wasn't supposed to be an action score, I loved it.

    Heat
Picking this up after I liked the song/score mesh of Collateral, Heat blew me away. Nearly seamless mixing of the two and surprising how well it works on CD. It does a masterful job in the film and album.
