German born Hans Zimmer started his composing career in Europe where he was known for work with electronic instruments as part of the pop group "The Buggles" where he helped bring "Video Killed the Radio Star" to the UK charts. In composing terms his career has been a traditional one of working his way up through the ranks. He started jingle writing for commercials which led to the collaboration with established composers such as Stanley Myers on Moonlighting and My Beautiful Laundrette and then TV work in the U.S. on programs such as "Miami Vice."
Zimmer has been nominated and won several awards making him one of today’s most sought after composers by Hollywood’s standards. In 1988 he earned an Oscar nomination for Rain Man and was nominated for a Grammy in 1989 for Driving Miss Daisy. The Lion King garnered his first Academy Award in 1994 and in 1995 Zimmer earned a Grammy for his work on Crimson Tide, which was honored as Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture. His score for Gladiator won him a Golden Globe for Best Original Score in 2000 and the Broadcast Film Critic's Best Original Score trophy in 2001. More recently he has composed scores for numerous films including: The Last Samurai, Pirates of the Caribbean and King Arthur.
Thunderbirds tells the story of the brilliant entrepreneur and former astronaut Jeff Tracy (Bill Paxton- Twister) and his five sons. The family lives hidden from the world on Tracy Island- a lush patch of land situated in the remote waters of the South Pacific. It is also the headquarters of Tracy’s top-secret organization, International Rescue, home of a fleet of five highly advanced rescue vehicles each designed to accomplish a specific task. The International Rescue is under attack by master criminal The Hood (Ben Kingsley- House of Sand and Fog, Gandhi) whose intent is to take control of the fleet. The Hood finds his plans obstructed by Tracy’s youngest son Alan (Brady Corbet- Thirteen), who will do anything to save his family and the Thunderbirds. Universal Pictures and Working Title Films present Thunderbirds opening July 30th in theatres nationwide.
