It's official, as reported by Sansweet, a representative of Lucasfilm, Ltd. at Long Beach's Comic-Con. Let the debating begin!!!!

I like it. I think it's the best title of the three prequels. Hopefully the movie will be good too.

Thanks for posting this news. Comic Con is held in San Diego, though. Not Long Beach.

Well... there goes the theory that you can only have one 'of the' title per Star Wars trilogy!

WAIT A SECOND!!! HAS NO ONE REALISED THAT THIS IS AN ANAGRAM!!!

Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith

    IS, WHEN REARRANGED,

    Veneer of the 3 Gespidiothes

THIS IS A SUBTLE BUT TELLING REFERENCE TO THE LEGEND OF THE 'GESPIDIOTHE', A CREATURE OF IMMENSE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL POWER WHO WAS RUMORED TO HAUNT THE MOORS OF TIERRA DEL FUEGO IN THE EARLY NINETEENTH CENTURY.

THE GESPIDIOTHE WOULD KILL ITS VICTIMS BY TELLING THEM STORIES IN THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGE THAT WOULD BRING ABOUT A TRANCE LIKE OBSESSION WITH THE FATE OF THE THIN CHARACTERS AND ANAEMIC PLOTS SPUN BY THE CREATURE.

EVENTUALLY THE VICTIMS WOULD DIE FROM A STARVATION OF THE IMAGINATION AS THEY CAME TO THINK ONLY IN TERMS OF THE WORLD OF THE GESPIDIOTHE, REPEATING IT'S DIALOGUE AND IDENTIFYING WITH THE FANTASTIC EXPLOITS OF ITS CHARACTERS WHILE THEIR BODIES WASTED FROM ATROPHY.

THE CREATURE - WHO IS MENTIONED IN THE CONTEMPORARY ACCOUNT OF DUTCH MISSIONARY GUTHE EATH - APPARENTLY DAZZLED IT'S VICTIMS WITH A DISPLAY OF REFRACTED LIGHT AND FLAMING SWORDS THAT DISARMED ALL POWERS OF RESISTANCE.

    Revenge of the Sith indeed!

Well Justin, I'd take that as a complement if it didn't come with someone who seems to will an association with the name Wanker.

J/k, no, I know not what this "RE:" thing is.

For those of you, like me, who dont think the new trilogy is a patch on the original, how about one word as an anagram?

    Revenge of the S*H*I*T

    Gae

I'll probably still end up buying it on DVD though!

After "The Lucas's" last two films- this one better be good. If I found out I sat through all that beuracracy crap from the first movie and all those cliche'd love lines from the second one for nothing-- I'm gonna be pissed.

Either way- he'll be laughing all the way to the bank

I was there when they announced the name, and also saw when they opened boxes with t-shirts and the logo, which to me looked just like the 1983 title of "Return of the Jedi"

I think I remember hearing JEJ saying bad things about Star Wars prequels and then he said he was available to do and wanted to do Vader again. He might have shot himself in his own foot. Put his own foot in his mouth. Washed his own mouth out with soap. Bend over in the shower to pick up the soap and so on ;-)

Originally return of the Jedi was going to be Revenge of the Jedi, but Lucas didnt think revenge was an appropriate title to represent the Jedi. So I guess he finally gets to use it with Sith now, I think its pretty cool myself, a hell of a lot better than The Phantom Menace anyway. Personally I think this one is going to rock, I've heard a lot of cool spy reports on this one.

    Thumbs up on the title!

I have also read enough snippets and quotes about the film to get very excited. From the largest starship battle of all of the films to a 12-minute duel between Anakin and Obiwan this should be the one we have all been waiting for.

My only concern is an attempt from Lucas to squeeze this into a 2-hour runtime. From what I have read this one should run 2.5 hours and do it right.

perhaps "Revenge Of The Disillusioned Fans Who Barely Made It Through The Last Flim And Can't Imagine How They Are Going To Transform The Smarmy Teen Anakin Into A James Earl Jones Voiced Darth Vadirized Reality" or something...

but "Revenge Of The Sith" will be OK too and we'll see how the reviews go.

Can somebody please tell me what on in the (SW) universe the Sith are avenging?

Other than losing Darth Maul (who himself inexplicably refers to "our revenge") in Episode 1, what have the Sith suffered that makes them want revenge?

I suppose Lucas could throw in some exposition in the new movie, but absent that, ROTS is an incredibly stupid title that makes no sense.

    Starwars.com says:

    quote:
The Sith are masters of the dark side of the Force and the sworn enemies of the Jedi. They were all but exterminated by the Jedi a thousand years ago, but the evil order continued in secrecy. They operated quietly, behind the scenes, acting in pairs - a Master and an Apprentice - patiently biding their time before they could take over the galaxy. In Episode III, they'll finally exact their revenge on the Jedi.

And yes, the logo for this title looks nearly identical to the "Revenge of the Jedi" logo, which is neat.

Of course, we shouldn't let this news distract us from the distressing news that's begun getting leaked about the upcoming "original trilogy" (if you can still call it that) DVDs.

What I've read so far (on DVDFile.com) is that Ian McDiarmid has taken the place of the actor who played the Emperor in The Empire Strikes Back, a shot of Gungans rejoicing has been added to the ending of Return of the Jedi, and most distressing of all is that an artificially aged Hayden Christiansen has been digitally added in place of Sebastian Shaw for Darth Vader's death scene.

I don't think I want these DVDs anymore.

Just goes to show you how much Lucas can't make up his mind about anything...and how he needs to add more from his "original" stuff from Episodes 1,2 and 3 into the original films to make up for him stealing the idea from Jack Kirby....

    Correction:

Sebastian Shaw remains in the death scene untouched. It's the "ghost trio" shot at the following celebration that Hayden Christensen has been added to.

Are we then to understand that Lucas' original intention for that last scene in 1982 was to film Hayden who was then... what? an embryo?

I for one don't really care what he changes. I thought some of the changes for ROTJ during the 2nd theatrical release were excessive and pointless, but the changes mentioned above make sense from a standpoint of continuity.

I know you all feel your childhood memories are being raped...but are these changes really that important.

I for one would like to see all of the special updated to current standards. Sure, the originals will always have a special place in my heart, but not all changes are blasphemous.

Since this is a film score website, what do you think the new musical themes will be for? For Episode I, the two main themes were Anakin's theme and Duel of the Fates. For Episode II there was Across the Stars and [to be placed later, can't think of it now]. Anyway, just want some opinions.

There is going to be a new villian that goes by general greivas, He's supposed to be a jedi killer that collects the lightsabers of the jedi he kills as he goes. I would imagine that he will have a theme. Other than that though I would expect to hear the Imperial march several times throughout the film, especially near the end of the movie. Oh yeah, some of it is going to take place on the wookies home planet, so there is another potential theme.
