    Hey,

Wondering if this Citadel release is complete. Just showed up yesterday and by chance the movie was on today

I can't seem to find the music used when they deploy the "whomper" in the final race at the end. Was this from another score or a portion of Poledouris' work not on the CD? Thanks!

This is an amazing score, by the way.

    NP: Wind

Don't know if it's complete, but out of nearly 20 Poledouris scores I own, this would have to be my least favourite - 80% of it is just horrible - with the cheapest-sounding synthesisers he's ever employed. The music budget for this film must have been miniscule for a great orchestral composer like Poledouris to cheapen and pad out his compositions with grating, inappropriate electronic noise which sounds like something dragged, kicking and screaming, out of the mid-80's. Hard to believe Wind is a 90's film.

Sorry, but for me this is a very rare Poledouris dud!!

    To offer a differing opinion--

This heroic and pensive score does sound like a score that means a great deal to the composer. There are moments of grandeur and loss in the score, as well as music that reflects the bliss of sailing (for those who may find sailing blissful.) Naturally it may not appeal to those who typically find fault in synth scores, but the electronic element throughout this music does a wonderful job of conveying the energy and sometimes hollowness of the ocean. My own reading on the music is that Poledouris truly enjoys the subject matter for which this music was written, and while the film is a beautifully shot film, most may be rather bored with the slow-moving plot. But otherwise, it is an exhilirating vision, again, for those who may find sailing (or films about sailing) to be entertaining.

I really like Wind. As it happen, I love beautiful photography and the movie offers that, along with a fine score that sounds so much like a second nature. However, I have been unable to get a copy of the score at a price of less than 20. Go figure.

Well, MM has it for 18.99...er...plus shipping and handling. A few years ago I tracked down the import version. Both have the same music (though the re-release omits a pop song that is more or less forgettable.) I believe neither version has the "whomper" music in question though--a version of the main theme accompanied with heavy American Indian drums--(the name of the American boat is "Geronimo".)

I didn't care much for Wind either and don't know if I ever made it through the entire CD. Ironically, I thought Free Willy was superior and and an enjoyable listening experience (ironic in the sense that Free Willy is all but never mentioned in discussions of Poledouris's music).
