For those who didn't know, or didn't catch it, or didn't even want to watch it - Joel Goldsmith scored the Series Premiere and it was really good score.

    Thoughts?

Wonder if it will get released.

Can you describe it? Was it anything like Arnold's Star Gate?

It doesn't sound like Arnolds' - Joel takes his own path. But the series jsut had a montage music as a helicopter flew threw the Antarctic, so we will have to wait till next week to hear the show's theme and I don't know who composed it. Though I think it goes without saying Joel must have done it.

A stupid and more than liekly false rumor is going around that Jerry did the theme.

I did watch and notice the score. Lots of good music and the episode was pretty darn good.

I don't mean to be negative but GNP/Crescendo released music from SG1 season 1. I emailed them regarding more music to the other seasons....they said there are no plans to release any more volumes. I even emailed Varese, their answer was the same. Unfortunately this might be the case w/Atlantis. However I would love to be wrong in this case.

It's funny...as I listened to the music for the opening credits, I thought of Jerry Goldsmith, especially for his Borg music, but then realized it was by Joel. Then the music credit came up, and lo and behold... Joel Goldsmith.

His score does warrant a cd release, and I'm looking forward to more scores by Joel for this series, but I think he may be hindered by being the son of you-know-who, or maybe a comparison by Jamie Horner with his sometimes hommage of Jerry in his own original [sic] work

If anyone has a right to pay proper homage to Jerry, it would be his own son and also very talented composer, Joel.

As for the Stargate: Atlantis score, yes I agree -- outstanding. Joel Goldsmith never ceases to impress me with his scores for SG-1, and now Atlantis. The premiere gave us a sweeping version of the main theme as it was played over helicopter aerials above the "Antarctic" -- but it wasn't until Episode 3 (the premiere being 1 & 2) that we got to hear the theme in it's "Main Title" mode, which I've been looking forward to. Needless to say, it's fantastic! I'm partial to Arnold's Stargate theme and it's implementation in SG-1, but Joel Goldsmith has really written an exciting, thematic piece that's just as awe-inspiring. Throughout the premiere of Atlantis we were introduced to two main themes -- a theme for the Atlantis Team and their expedition, and then another theme, which I've felt stands for the presence of the Ancients by way of the city, it's technology, and the history and mysteriousness surrounding both. Joel incorporates both of these themes in an exciting and beautiful way -- and while I wish it were longer (it runs roughly 55 seconds in length), it's already managed to work itself into the hummability realm with me. The chorus halfway through gives me goosebumps.

    Excellent job, Joel!

Anyone who's interested in hearing the theme, e-mail me or instant message me. I ripped it from the show... which will have to do for now, until we get a score release! La La Land? Michael?? This would be a perfect title for you guys.

    Will the funky chicken do?

I read at another score board (forget which) where someone posted a reply they got from GNP and GNP was thinking about doing it, so no. GNP appears to not be dead. Maybe they are lying in wait and are getting to pounce on us with wonderful stuff we would shell out for.
