(June 15, 2004- New York, NY)-- Focus Features presents The Door In The Floor, an alternately tragic and comic exploration of the complexities of love in both its brightest and darkest corners. Directed by Tod Williams (The Adventures of Sebastian Cole), the film is adapted from John Irving’s best-selling novel A Widow For One Year. The original music was composed and conducted by Marcelo Zarvos (Kissing Jessica Stein) and the soundtrack will be released on June 22nd on Decca/UMG Soundtracks.

The Door In The Floor takes the moviegoer on an emotional rollercoaster ride. Much like the film, Zarvos’ score also takes the listener on a journey that conveys the intense drama each character experiences. His incredible penchant for seamless melodies showcases the emotional nature of the film and its music, with lush orchestrations making for a beautiful listen.

Brazilian pianist and composer Marcelo Zarvos has written for virtually every medium, from dance to the concert stage, film, television and theater. Besides his work in film and television, he also released three highly acclaimed albums, Dualism, with saxophonist Peter Epstein, Labyrinths and most recently Music Journal on MA Recordings. Variety has called his work on other scores "affecting” while The Miami New Times praised his music as "achingly beautiful.” Television scores include “Role Reversal” (A&E), “6th Section” (PBS) and the award winning “The Buffalo War” (PBS). Recent film scores include the “Kissing Jessica Stein” (Fox Searchlight), “The Mudge Boy” (Sundance 2003 Feature Competition), “Tully,” the Academy Award nominated short “A Soccer Story” and upcoming The Door In the Floor puts us up to date.

The Door In The Floor is set in the privileged beach community of East Hampton, New York and chronicles one pivotal summer in the lives of famous children’s book author Ted Cole (Jeff Bridges) and his beautiful wife Marion Cole (Kim Basinger).Their once-great marriage has been strained by tragedy. Her resulting despondency and his subsequent infidelities have prevented the couple from confronting a much-needed change in their relationship. Eddie O’Hare, the young man Ted hired to work as his summer assistant, is the couple’s unwitting yet willing pawn – and, ultimately the catalyst in the transformation of their lives. The Door In The Floor opens July 14 at select theatres in the top 20 markets and will open wider by August.
