    Hey all,
One of the reasons for my abscense from this site is the new MMORPG Lineage 2: Chaotic Chronicle. It's a really cool fantasy game with Final Fantasy type graphics but more realistic. It also has castle siege battles, dragons, pvp, clanwars, and all that other goodness.

The problem is leveling my character and doing all the quests is easily taking like 5 hours a day. I was wondering what you all thought was the best tracks you could come up with for Atmospheric, relaxing, action, and suspenseful music that has an unearthly, paranormal, and fantasy feel to it. I'm looking for about a full CDR of tracks so I can make a good compilation "soundtrack" for the game. I have been dedicated to this game for like 3 months since closed beta and I am in a clan so this is a serious thing for me hehe.

In case you all need a taste of what the game is like check it out at http://www.lineage2.com

    Thanks for your help!

Does the game have no acceptable original music?

Some of my favourite atmospheric scores are most of the darkness falls score by brian tyler, a few tracks from alien 3 goldenthal most notably the first trackagnus dei, the abduction of barry from close encounters of the third kind williams, the chronichles of riddick revell, and some of hellboy beltrami.

    Perhaps something from Goldenthal's Sphere?

I would go with one composer to get a coherent style in your listening experience. Elliot Goldenthal, mentioned by a few others in this thread, is an excellent choice. Try some stuff from Alien 3, Sphere and In Dreams.

Another good choice would be Chris Young. Hider in the House, Species, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Bless the Child are a few examples. Anything with his trademark sustained string writing would create a chilling atmosphere!

Ah yes, Young. And if you need a more "urgent" atmospheric piece, don't forget Fever from his Species score.

Aaron, that atmospheric "creeping around" music is, I think, notoriously difficult to sustain. In my humble opinion Goldsmith does it fairly well (though not greatly - his full-blown emotional and action scenes are far more satisfying for me - though his "spotting" for those fecking around scenes is top-notch). Williams kind of fails for me in his fecking around scenes - even his greatest scores for the disaster movies (POSEIDON ADVENTURE, EARTHQUAKE, TOWERING INFERNO) tend to suffer from his over-claustrophobic ramblings.

But there are two composers who stand out for me regarding atmospheric scoring. One is Jerry Fielding (even when he's being boring he's still interesting, if you lend an ear), and, above all, Leonard Rosenman. Rosenman's lengthy finale/redemption scene from EAST OF EDEN seems on first listen mere rambling, but wow, pay attention and you'll be open-mouthed drooling at how how gripping it really is.

This title came to mind as an atmospheric score possibly suitable for gaming ambience.

    Merlin: (Trevor Jones)

I always liked listening to Poledouris action tracks when I played RTGs. Perhaps an atmospheric title by Poledouris is Les Miserables.

Aaron, I hang my head in shame. I'd had beer and didn't read your post, just the heading. I don't know what the best music is for what you're looking for. But the things I mentioned are quite good, even if they're not what you're looking for.

Damn beer, darn your eyes (and if you've got any wool left over, you can darn my socks). Or maybe that's "damn" your eyes. Good Lord, I know not what hast becometh me.

David Julyan's score for Insomnia is pure atmosphere. Elegaic and slow, if that works for you

Brian Eno's "Prophecy Theme" from Dune is one of those tracks oozing with atmosphere that I can listen to on repeat for hours on end.

Great suggestion guys. I'll be sure to check these titles out next time i'm at Barnes and Noble. (Best place to listen to music cause they have those awesome listening stations)

I have Dune and I found it to be way too synth, and the sound quality not that great. But it IS on the Polydor lable soo..is there a remastered version? I've actualy been listening to Goldenthal's "Michael Collins, and Final Fantasy" scores alot. It's great stuff!

If you want more of an idea of what the game is about, think about Final Fantasy meets Lord of the Rings with castle siege battles and flying dragons . The game has everything from dark towers with slow moving golems to vast fields filled with giant lizardmen to cemetaries festering with zombies and skeletons. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Dark Elves, and Orcs are the races. Perhaps we can come up with a theme for each race?

I just thought this would be a fun topic for us all to brainstorm with hehe.

Again, for your enjoyment, check out http://www.lineage2.com for pics
