    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK TWO BROTHERS TO BE RELEASED ON DECCA/UMG SOUNDTRACKS JUNE 22, 2004

MUSIC COMPOSED AND CONDUCTED BY ACADEMY AWARD® WINNING COMPOSER
    STEPHEN WARBECK

(May 24, 2004- New York, NY) From the acclaimed director, Jean-Jacques Annaud (The Bear) comes an extraordinary motion picture event for the whole family. Starring Guy Pearce (Memento, L.A. Confidential), Two Brothers is an epic adventure story about the power of friendship, the bond between brothers and the spirit that connects us all. The heart-warming film was based on the original screenplay written by Annaud and Alain Godard (The Name of the Rose, Enemy at the Gates) with music composed and conducted by Academy Award® winner, Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare In Love, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin). The soundtrack for the movie will be released on Decca/ UMG Soundtrack June 22nd.

Warbeck’s score strikes an emotional chord with people of all ages just as the film does. Capturing the intense yet playful spirit of the movie, the soundtrack’s lush orchestrations and stylistic pace transports the listener back to the jungles of Cambodia and Thailand where the movie was filmed. An engaging listen from start to finish, one of the highlights from the soundtrack includes “La Vergine Degli Angeli” from Verdi’s La Forza del Destino featuring vocals from Ezio Pinza, Padre Guardino, Rosa Ponselle and Leonara.

Stephen Warbeck’s musical interest began in Southampton, England where he studied piano and composition at the age of four. By his mid-teens, he developed an affinity for rock 'n' roll, as well as acting. He studied drama and French at Bristol University, and began his career as a thespian, but eventually diverted into writing music. Although his interest and love of the theatre remained, he began writing music for film and television in the early 1990’s, and over the past decade has gradually built up a considerable filmography. He still is linked to the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre as Head of Music and Associate Artist. Warbeck has written music for more than forty television projects, received five BAFTA nominations and won an Academy Award® for the soundtrack for “Shakespeare In Love” (1998) which leads him to Two Brothers.

Set not so long ago in a distant land, Two Brothers is the story of twin tiger cubs—one shy and gentle, the other, bold and fierce—who are born among the temple ruins of an exotic jungle, but are one day separated by fate. The bold brother is sold off to a circus, where homesickness and living in a cage rob him of his spirit. The shy cub becomes the beloved companion for the governor’s lonely young son, until an accident forces the family to give him away to a man who resolves to break his gentle nature and turn him into a fighter for sport. When they are fully grown, the brothers find themselves reunited—but as forced enemies pitted against each other. Universal Pictures presents Two Brothers opening June 25 in theatres nationwide.
