While we're at the Mission to Mars thread, I'll ask this:
Does anybody know when in the movie the track "An Unexpected Surprise" is played... I'm lazy and I just wondered if someone would help me out. Thanks in advance.

And it's another job for the FIVE MINUTE CUE LISTER (ba-boom-tish)...

    1. A Heart Beats In Space (7:58)

    End credits piece.

    2. A Martian (6:05)

The surviving astronauts meet a martian and have a philosophical epiphany.

    3. A World Which Searches (2:58)

The rescue team land on Mars after losing their leader. They restore the American flag to its prominent place, but sadly forget to do the same in honor of the French and Russian astronaut's whose lives they've also come to save.

    4. And Afterwards? (6:32)

Accompanies the first reveal of the planet Mars and the ensuing sequence. The strange tornado-thingy swallows up most of the Mars ground crew. Strangely Morricone scores nature unleashed with a series of atonal electronic sounds. Very interesting, and reminiscent of some passages in Logan's Run.

    5. A Wife Lost (3:26)

Gary Sinise remembers his dead wife (Kim Delaney?) while watching a video where she expresses her belief in aliens.

    6. Towards The Unknown (8:14)

The hull breach sequence, and the cause of a great deal of argument about what organs are for. Look naysayers - there's enough film scores out there for you never to have to think about this one again if it so offends thee ... run along now.

    7. Ecstasy of Mars (2:57)

Cue lister scratches head. Possibly from early in the film when we see scenes of Don Cheadle and his crew on Mars. I really can't remember - I haven't seen this film in years.

    8. Sacrifice of a Hero (13:19)

The film's major action (though it's more suspense) setpiece. Concludes with a fantastic trumpet theme.

    9. Where? (5:32)

    The epiphany of Gary Sinise.

    10. An Unexpected Surprise (2:32)

Brian DePalma throws in a shot for his fans - reminding all that he indeed was the director of Raising Cain... Yes, I know... Well, the rescue team investigate the seemingly abandoned base of the Mars ground crew, and Gary Sinise gets into a fight with Don Cheadle sporting a truly Mosaic beard.

    11. All The Friends (2:38)

Ironically the first score cue in the film. Tim Robbins, Cheadle and Sinise sit in a cubby house after their BBQ, talking about Sinise's dead wife.

    Film Order: 11, 4, (7?), 5, 6, 8, 3, 10, 2, 9, 1.

And this exciting episode of THE FIVE MINUTE CUE LISTER was brought to you by boredom, Morricone, good music and a minute to spare.

4 definitely comes very early. Those electronic sounds were associated with the 'Mars whirl pool' sequence. I'm pretty sure 9 follows 2 directly (since both are about 5 minutes long and between them they are the last 10 minutes of the film). There was a very grand statement of Morricone's main theme (I think the one from 'A World Which Searches' or track 3) in between tracks 8 and 10. The only cue I can't place is track 7. I'll stick to my five minute guns and wonder how it is I have such clear views on a film I saw once years ago.
