This may seem like a really random question, but you know... it is a really random question.
What is the longest cue you have heard in a soundtrack album? This means single track on the CD, or equivalent on whatever else you use, and can't be on the CD but not in the movie, i.e. it can't be something put on the album to sell it, it actually has to be in the movie...

So, the longest cue on a soundtrack album I've heard is (I know it's pathetic, but here you go...):
Sacrifice of A Hero (Mission to Mars): Running Time 13 minutes 19 seconds.

Well...it might not count as it pretty much a mix...but how about the 20-minute cue on The Matrix Reloaded?

Yeah, I'm not sure about that Matrix Reloaded one... as you said, it is a mix... but that 18 minute Willow cue holds the top spot so far...

    0.(Possible)Matrix Reloaded Mix: 20 Minutes
1.Bavmora's Spell is Cast- Willow: 18 minutes 11 seconds
2.Sacrifice of a Hero- Mission to Mars: 13 minutes 19 seconds.

More replies please... oh and don't worry if they aren't as long as the aforementioned ones, this is just to see the longest one*S*, not the single longest cue.

'Vigau' - Basil Poledouris - Les Miserables - 19 mins or so.

'Lento' - Henryk Gorecki - Symphony No. 3 - Fearless - 25 minutes or so.

The longest track that I have on a score CD is actually made up of a number of cues: track 2 on the Kings Row (Korngold) disc which clocks in at 24:30.

I think the longest single cue I have is the "Romance for Guitar and Orchestra" from Deadfall by John Barry at 14:18. (It's a great cue, too.)

It;s not a score track, but Gorecki's Symphony No.3 on the Fearless score CD clocks in at 26:26.

It's the piece used to brilliant effect during the finale of the film.

A bit of a cheat here but what about the 70+ minute cue featuring the complete(?) score to Herrmann's Vertigo, conducted by James Conlon.

Yeah, I think we need to make something clear here...a cue is one piece of continuous score music in a film. A bunch of different cues edited into the same track on a CD is not the same thing.

I'm thinking "The Grid" from Philip Glass's Koyaanisqatsi, whoch runs about 21 minutes.

If my Conlon Vertigo cue doesn't count how about a track from Goldenthal's Fire Paper Water: A Vietnam Oratorio - "Part 1: Offertorium" clocks in at 32:08.

I know this one's not a score but at least it is a movie composer.

    These are the same.

Also note some of the cues on Trevor Jones' Merlin (Age of Magic and The Walls are Whispering are each 14 mins plus) and The Mighty (The Mighty Quest and another track both run to 14 minutes).

Well The Fan has a 20 minute Suite on it. But there's a few Zimmer CD's where the tracks are really long (like the mentioned scores to Peacemaker, K2 and Crimson Tide).

Tracks by Gorecki surely don't count, they were'nt written for film!

And also, can't we dispose of certain tracks by the likes of Hans Zimmer etc where within the film these were split up (i.e. K2)

At the moment the longest continuous track I can think of specifically written for film is 'Romance For Guitar And Orchestra' from Barry's DEADFALL.

What's the difference? Lots of times if a cue is really long in a film it's made up of a few cues edited together and it's not all performed at once.

I don't think suites should count. I think only cues that are one piece should.

Plus, technically, John Beal made that X-Files suite. It is a re-recording. At least, that I what I have heard several times.

Horner's The Rocketeer has several long cues. 7 to 9 minutes, but now that we are geting an average of over 10 minute cues from people hear, I guess it makes it pointless.

    [pedant]
Shouldn't Battle of Hoth be disqualified for consisting of five separate cues?

Battle of Endor I is four cues.
    [/pedant]

If we start counting long sequences that consist of individual cues that segue together, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom has almost 48 minutes of continuous score in one part (most of it unreleased, sadly).

Isn't the CD either a massive cut & paste job or a separate recording? The track layout at least seems to resemble the Requiem Mass, and the score in the movie was quite differently sequenced, as far as I remember.

The finale from Hook might be quite long? A lot of it is unreleased, but I believe it runs continuously in the movie?
