Does anyone know when the Score (Not the music from and inspired by, but rather Danny Elfman's Score) is going to be released?

Even if it were recorded in L.A., I seriously doubt we wouldn't.Hopefully they won't leave any little good cues off this time.

So... when would that be?
I think you may have misunderstood my question... no sweat, but do you know *when* the score will be released?

No, I got your question, I just made a different answer than you wanted. When? I suspect a week before, or a week after the movie is released.

Odin, the one thing you may have to consider, although I would think with all the factors involved that Sony would put it out a little sooner, is that the last score for Spider-Man was released a month after the film, first week of June that year, if I remember correctly.I hope they don'd do the same and have us wait until the end of July- I honestly wish that what Justin suggests as a date is the way things turn out to be. Big problem, Sony's only talking about the songs album.

If there's one thing I've learned with score, it's patience for the ones that matter. I remember 1989 with Batman- I would go to record stores for weeks after seeing it and asking about Danny Elfman's music from it. Late July I was finally happy to hear that in August, it would get a release- the one time a record shop clerk in a mall was actually knowledgeable!!!Probably the last. God bless the internet.
Meantime, I actuaallyy posed this question of the release to Grant curtis's Blog at the Spider-Man 2 site. Doubt it will get much of a response, but I thought it was worth a shot. I'm confident in one thing: if a release happens, it will be soon.

Quote from Ford Thaxton over at FSM:quote:
according to one person who has seen the film John Debney is credited on the end titles for additional music. In addition there are unconfirmed RUMORS (Take these with a gain of salt) that Christopher Young did some additional music (No surprise since the film was temped in some sections with HELLBOUND-HELLRAISER 2 according to one editor who worked on the film), Steve Bartak did some stuff as well and even Joseph LoDuca was called in for a cue or two.
Cool! LoDuca! Hey, why isn't he scoring big time movies like Spider-Man instead of that crappy He-Man remake and additional music?LoDuca would be a intersting choice for Riddick sequals if Revell is no avalialbe.

Of course I can't wait... I'm really an impatient sort of guy. Anyway, I just wish they would release the Score at the same time they released the "Music Inspired by..." because I think that the former is just as, if not moreso, important than the latter.

Elfman fans are going to love Spider-Man 2, thats for sure. Its got everything you can expect from Elfman and carries on with all the style from the first score.
This time around, the action cues are even more crazy.
And what about the theme for Doc Ock? Fits and is great.
Best regards,
Joe

I think the biggest reason other composers were tapped to contribute to Spider-Man 2 was simply the post-production time crunch. There were some late editorial changes (FSM reports) and in cases like this they grab anybody that's available to help. This has happened several times with Goldsmith projects; specifically AIR FORCE ONE, STAR TREK, etc.

I still can't wait... hopefully Elfman won't turn into another Zimmer... what am I talking about, there's no way Elfman will stoop that low.

Someone posted this at another board:quote:
On their syndicated show this weekend Ebert was blunt--it's the best superhero movie he has ever seen. Up there with Superman (1978). Superior to the first Spider-Man, and better than any Batman film.Roeper had raves for it too, even though he thought Dr. Octopus wasn't quite as scary as the Green Goblin from the first film.
Both praised the balance between action scenes and character interplay. The relationship between Mary Jane and Peter evokes emotions that you don't normally expect from a movie of this type, one said.
They praised the action sequences ("mind-blowing," according to one). Ebert said that this time the CGI Spidey and live-action Spidey combined better than before.
Wow.
And Dan said in an FSM post that Sony might release the score CD.

Just picked up the soundtrack...Here's a mini-review of the score tracks (come on, that's all we're interested in...)
SPIDEY SUITE (4:00)
A neat albeit short re-cap of main themes from the original movie from what I can tell. Good stuff.DOC OCK SUITE (3:54)
Too short to hear any major themes but it's very cool. Would really like to hear more...Looking forward to seeing the movie. Hope there is a score release!

And by invisible, I mean thematic material that a lot of people can't seem to recognize- but it's right there, screaming at you. The Doc Ock suite contains the Doc Ock theme over and over again. There's actually 2 themes. One is a short 8 note, straight quarters and eighths mechanical motive... it's perfect for the character. Then there's a lyrical theme that reminds me a lot of his Penquin theme from Batman Returns. The Doc Ock theme appears a lot in the Spidey Suite too.

You want to get Sony to release it, here's a thought- it might be a long shot. Go over to Grant Curtis' blog at the Spider-Man 2 official website and ask about the score being released on CD, a number of people have done it, and the more people that do, the more support the bigwigs at Sony will see- and they could release it based on demand.[Message edited by Widescreen on 06-21-2004]

Sorry Tim, I think you got the wrong end of the stick. I meant that I thought the cues were too short for the themes to develop in such a small amount of time. There are themes, but we need to hear more! Hopefully now we will!
