I am kinda surprised by this news, but here it is. He will always be connected to movie music for remarkably gritty "Cincinnati Kid." Raw and full of soul. He has other movie songs, but this one's my favorite.

Play a Ray Charles song today, will you?

His lovely song "Ruby" was used to excellent and dreamy effect for a scene in Federico Fellini's film "Toby Dammit." For the original score, Nino Rota even used the melody from "Ruby" for a few of his cues (which were refreshing interpretations, especially in the orchestration).

I listened to a lot of oldies as a kid and I remember always playing "Hit the Road Jack," and later on I always loved hearing "Ruby," lovely song. My condolences to his family and fans.

May he rest in peace. Sad news indeed, but he will not be forgotten.

Don't forget "In The Heat of the Night" by Quincy Jones & Alan & Marilyn Bergman.

I also love his version of "It's Crying Time" with Barbra Streisand.

I don't really know much by him, but his appearance in Blues Brothers comes to my mind. I'll have to watch that again soon.

Nobody could play "Georgia On My Mind" and make it classic like he could- maybe Willie Nelson, but Ray was the one who made it stick for me.

Around the late 80's/early nineties, he had a great song release called "My Song", it was your standard love song given great credence by him. may have to get that.

If ever there was a 'cool cat', smiling, soulful, piano man... it was Ray Charles. He was beautiful and he shall be missed. Farewell Ray... and God bless you.
