I always wanted to start one of these threads.

I'm probably the only one NOT rushing out to get "Van Helsing."

Here's what is new, so far...

    "Serial Lover" Bruno Coulais
"Cold Mountain" Academy Promo Gabriel Yared

Coming via eBay in the VERY near future:

"A Warm Shade of Memory" Michel Legrand jazz CD

    "The Buccaneers" Colin Towns

"Belphegor, Le Fantome...," "Le Compte De Monte Cristo," "Agents Secrets," "Harrison's Flowers," "De L'Amour" all by Bruno Coulais (I'm on a roll here)

    "Chasseur D'Ecume" Jean Claude Petit

    "La Califfa" Ennio Morricone

    "Delicatessen" Carlos D'Alessio

    "Colette" Philippe Sarde

"Amazone," "1 Chance Sur 2," "Les Portes De La Gloire" all by Alexandre Desplat

    James

    (who is now broke)

    Your medal's in the post.

Red Dawn, Heartbeeps and the promos for What Women Want and ones for Randy Miller and Basil Poledouris.

P.S. Bring on Van Helsing! (AFTER seeing the movie.)

And well it is that you start the thread Mr Bond - since your list of purchases is one of the most interesting I've seen in a while. I don't think there's a score on there I wouldn't buy on impulse based on the composer or title.

I remember seeing the Gerard Depardieu version of Le Compte De Monte Cristo on late night television a couple of years back. It was completely riveting and hands down the best film version of that tale ever. Is this the version that Coulais scored? I remembered the music being superb, but I never could catch the composer's name as the credits quickly scrolled by.

How is Desplat's writing in general compared to his work on his most well know western scores - Girl with a Pearl... and Luzhin?

I agree...I have a feeling there was even more underscore in the film, but I'll have to wait to get the DVD to be sure.

Yes it's the same...it hasn't arrived yet so I don't know how it sounds.

    "Delicatessen" Carlos D'Alessio
    "Colette" Philippe Sarde

    What are these two like?

    These haven't arrived yet either.

"Amazone," "1 Chance Sur 2," "Les Portes De La Gloire" all by Alexandre Desplat

These haven't arrived. I did get "La Femme Du Cosmonaute" by Desplat which is good. It has some Latin songs and melodies. I heard it late last night on my drive home from the Saturn Awards so I don't have a good sense of it as I was tired. I do recall it sounding kind of "John Barry-like" at times.

Also heard ""Marie-Lousie Ou La Permission" by Desplat and it's quite lovely. There are some songs which are charming and some dialog excerpts here & there, but it is VERY Parisean (sp?) and jazzy.

I'll let you know how the others are as I get a chande to hear them. I got about a dozen CDs all at once yesterday so I'm set for the month.

I admit I've never seen this film. Just love the soundtrack. This evening I plan to correct that...

Actually I saw this for sale here in the L.A. area yesterday so I think your release dates are off.

Also, for the record, I DID finally buy Van Helsing (used for $8.99) as well as:

    Gigi by Lerner & Lowe
Astronaut's Wife by George S. Clinton
    The Replacements by John Debney
    Invincible by Zimmer & Badelt
Treasure of Sierra Madre by Max Steiner

    Via eBay:

    Inquietudes by Alexandre Desplat
Where's Jack by Elmer Bernstein w/ Kidnapped by Roy Budd
La Califfa by Morricone (expanded Japanese version)

What an excellent month it has been. Just arrived in the post from the store...

    Quigley Down Under (Poledouris)
    Merlin (Jones)
    The Specialist (Barry)

Three excellent scores and I glad to have them. Thanks PeterK.

Others that have recently found their way into my collection:

    Jane Eyre (Williams)
    Up Close and Personal (Newman)
    The Shadow (Goldsmith)
    An Ideal Husband (Mole)
    Prince Valiant (Waxman)
    Surviving Picasso (Robbins)
    The Golden Bowl (Robbins)
A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries (Robbins)

    And last but not least:

Sommersby (Elfman) - I love this score. The main theme took time to do its number on me, but it definitely has.
