This score rocks! It will no doubt be hailed as one of Silvestri's very best action/adventure scores. I absolutely can't wait to pick it up.

Funny thing: I got that track listing from Circuit City, who incidentally has the lowest pre-order price out there right now that I've seen.

Jeron- you've HEARD this score? You need to hook the brothers here up!

Hey, if VH has even half the energy heard in "My First Bus Ride" from The Mummy Returns, I'll be satisfied.

In related news: Supposedly, Ron Shussett (Alien, Total Recall) is rumored to be writing a new Flash Gordon for Stephen Sommers (Van Helsing director). I'll believe it when I see it- but if that's the case- it's going to be so hard to replace the 1980 film as it and the soundtrack are among my childhood favorites.

Judging from the "enhanced content" I wouldn't bet on too long.

    Check this out: http://www.iclassics.com/iclassics/album.jsp?selectionId=60772

Also, note the absence of Kate Beckinsale in the art on the iclassics site. The art at the Circuit City site includes her.

Van Helsing takes "My First Bus Ride" and injects it with adrenaline super-charged mutagen from Planet X. Compared to The Mummy Returns, VH is off the charts. Being satisfied is the ultimate understatement.

I can easily agree with Jeron on this.

Van Helsing is currently in my top three of best scores this year.

    42 minutes of fantastic music.

I have the CD directly next to me.

    Take note of the following:

    1. Transylvania 1887 (1:26)
    2. Burn It Down! (4:46)
    3. Werewolf Trap (1:53)
    4. Journey to Transylvania (1:33)
    5. Attacking Brides (5:02)
    6. Dracula's Nursery (5:46)
    7. Useless Crucifix (2:35)
    8. Transylvanian Horses (3:55)
    9. All Hallow's Eve Ball (3:01)
    10. Who Are They to Judge? (2:00)
    11. Final Battle (6:28)
    12. Reunited (4:23)

Every moment is full of sheer orchestra power. Especially the final, which builds from a huge orchestra behemoth, with full chorus chanting. Amazing and fun score.

    Best regards,

    Joseph W. Bat

Joseph, very interesting. Thanks for the info. But how in the world did you get your hands on a CD that is only out in about two weeks on May 4?

BTW, what is the ratio orchestra/electronics on Van Helsing?

ESB, if I may venture a guess, Joseph gained access to a promo disc of some kind. Am I correct?

Regardless of how you got it- thanks very much for the times, and for your thoughts on it. Now I know I have to have it.

    ESB,

    Its a promotional disc.

The use of electronics is there, but never distracts from the full orchestra/chorus. Often times, it is there just for background. However, in certain action cues, the electronics do act more like the driving force of the music.

What I found most interesting with the score is how each section has been given its own distinct character. For example, there is a reoccuring string motif that is present, its first introduced in the opening track and is found in quite a few of the cues.

The chorus also plays an important part of the score.

Anyways, I'm sure fans are going to love this score.

    Best regards,

    Joseph W. Bat

Your maths is wrong. The total time is 42:48.

At least it appears to have the finale, unlike The Mummy Returns.

BTW, did you see Jonathan Broxton's (from Movie Music UK) first reaction to Van Helsing? http://www.filmtracks.com/scoreboard/main.cgi?read=131264

I haven't heard anything about it lately. But the director of Two Soldiers told me a while ago that it will happen soon. But I guess Alan will take a one or two week vacation to get some rest (action scoring seems to be very tiring). So my guess if everything has a green light it will happen somewhere in May.

Crono, unfortunately I already pre-ordered Van Helsing so I'm too late to get on the list.

I will reserve my comments until I hear more, as 30-second clips can be death to a score. One question though, is the "All Hallow's Eve" ball a ballroom piece? A waltz perhaps?

After a dreamy prelude, about 25 seconds of the track is waltz-like in a big way. Wish there was more, as it's great.

YES!! This could be Silvestri's greatest action score- those 30 second samples only HINT at how good the score will be... I've been waiting a long time for a good Silvestri comeback!!

There is more, but it's not on the CD. There's a lot of great "ballroom music" during the sequence. It's a shame it wasn't all edited into one huge suite.

But as PK said, what's there is great.
