Saw it...liked it. For the most part the film met my expectations, provided a good dose of action and retribution, with a layer of humor frosting that for the most part worked. Now, I have never read the comic so I really didn't have any preconceived notions about where the story should go. That probably helped.
The score was actually pretty good, if not a tad understated. Here is an ignorant question...who composed it? There were no opening credits, and I didn't hang around at the end?

Man, with everyone continuing to say this film is good, I may have to check it out now. Damn you all! Haha, honestly I was going to see it anyway. I collect all Marvel Comics movies.imdb states Carlo Siliotto composed the music. Whether this is true? I have no clue

Yes, it's true. He's an acclaimed Italian composer. La La Land Records will be releasing his score in May.MV Gerhard

This film was awful. The action sucked. The premise was plain retarted. John Travolta was a bloody joke (I think they thought it was pretty clever naming him Howard Saint 'cause he's a bad guy but his name is Saint and his nightclub is Saint & Sinners; what an stupid idea!) if there ever was one, and who the hell was that Russian "tough" guy the Punisher was supposed to be fighting? He looked like a gay Pop-Eye! Lame! Lame! Lame! And the score? Geez, it sounded like it was played by a junior high-school band, and the music itself was pretty bad (sorry La La).I thought the whole premise of the Punisher is that his family being killed occurs in a "random" act of violence, being caught in the crossfire so-to-speak, and so that's why he takes on criminals. Woulda worked better. And while I'm at it: Guns aren't cool!

Plenty! Just none by crackpot filmmakers like Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay, or any of those derivatives. See, Jeff, and you've obviously noticed this, and I've posted this elsewhere, I don't think guns should be glorified in an action movie. It's fine to have them in a film, but they shouldn't be shown as cool. So, when a gun is in the hand of a bad guy it should be shown as threatening and an awful thing, like say what John Woo does (like his films or not, he's pretty good at that move). But then, take Bad Boys 2 where Will Smith threatens a kid with a gun by sticking it in his face etc. and making homophobic and racist comments to that kid: it's like a white man's fantasy or something with Michael Bay / Bruckheimer allowing that kinda of unecessary dialogue to be there, and more importantly, they both obviously think guns are very funny things and that you can just thrown them around as such and threaten kids like that; well, I don't buy it, and I don't think other decent people do either... that's what The Punisher does, more or less, making guns cool when they certainly aren't.

I don't think the movie ever made guns cool. The only scene where they were even discussed was when Roy Scheider's character showed his collection, and they were in a glass case. I don't think they were ever intended to be used.Neil

I can see where Sean is coming from with the scene in Bad Boys II with the little kid. I was sooo not laughing at that part. That and the stupid ass rat scene? Who in the hell can find that funny? To me it was childish, 13 year old humor.

I don't mind guns being glorified as long as it is tasteful and is part of the story. It drives it or what not.But guns are used far too often these days.
Take a note from Buffy The Vampire Slayer where Whedon used anything but guns the majority of the time. Stakes, bo staffs, stun guns, magic, plain words and all were just as effective.posted 04-23-2004 09:55 AM PT (US)

Glorifying guns...sorry Sean...didn't see it in this film. Sure it totes a heavy dose violence...but there's not much point to the film without it.I'm not quite sure what you were expecting going into a comic-book inspired film about a vigilante...I guess you were mislead.
