Alright, so which score do you guys think is better, Brother Bear or Tarzan? I love both scores, Mark Mancina always does awesome work, so it's hard for me to choose, but I think I like Tarzan a little bit better because it was a little more thematic and works just as good outside of the film as it does in the film. Brother Bear is a great score, but it works best in the picture. There was a lot of supporting background music in the movie which is great, but just not as easy of a listen outside the film. What are your thoughts?Clayton

I think Tarzan hands down. For starters, Brother Bear has got to have THE most unmemorable soundtrack in Disney's history! Man the songs are just tripe, tripe, tripe! To give it credit, "On My Way" is a catchy and pretty nice number, likewise that song about "shame" is pretty (but still oh-so mediocre), but the rest of the songs are pretty worthless. I know this isn't what you asked, but I have to listen to them everyday at work, and they never seem to sound any better. The opening "Welcome to Our Family" is probably the worst of the bunch.Mancina is a composer I used to like but have grown to like, ahem, less. Pulled out Twister about a week ago and was baffled at how downright boring it was. The guy's orchestrations are just downright awful and totally uninteresting with an orchestra. He's much better with the electronics (re: Speed, some of Con Air). Anywho, I also pulled out Tarzan (boot) not that long ago and it didn't hit me like it once did either. The guy has generally got some good ryhthms there, and some nice (but overly generic) melodies, but the drama is usually overdramatic with cliche exotic instrumentation (again, though, pleasant), and the action music just can't compare to that of so many other composers, again mainly because his orchestrations just aren't up to snuff.
Ahem this was kind of a rant, wasn't iT? ANNNNYWHO, that being said, Tarzan still to me is the far better score than Brother Bear, namely because I can't recall a single melody from it, and I've seen the movie 50+x at work. I did like the Funeral cue, and Jeron was ever-so-nice-enough to send it to me, but it's like, 50 seconds? Heh.
So, overall, Tarzan.
However, I will use an analogy and say Tarzan is like a small little ***** cat and Goldsmith's Mulan is a pitbul, perfectly capable of eating it's head off whenever it wants.

Exactly what Hasta said...loved the score for Brother Bear, but that's it. Loved both for Tarzan

I think I agree with all you guys. Tarzan beats out Brother Bear by a little bit. I do love the Phil Collins songs on Brother Bear though except the Tina Turner one...that one just seems kinda out of place. I like both scores but Tarzan's does seem stronger. And I'm probably a little biased cuz I liked Tarzan's soundtrack so much before. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Brother Bear also...it's got some great scenes.

The songs for Tarzan are way better, however there is one great track from Brother Bear that I like, the Transformation track performed by the Bulgarian Women's Choir. That's a great track, until you get to the "Phil Version" right before the score portion on the Brother Bear soundtrack. But as far as the score goes, it is pretty forgetable, probably because it didn't seem very thematic. There were a few parts that really stood out in the movie, the main titles, the carabou chase, the funeral, and the rock painting track. But all those apeared on the CD where as Tarzan had tons of great stuff (in my opinion at least). Hasta, what do you think of Mancina's score for Bad Boys?Clayton

Hey Clay I like Bad Boys, but it's been so long since I've heard it or seen the film. At one point I did really really dig it though.
