Saw it. Loved it. And now I need a song from it. I believe it's not on the soundtrack, or so goes the search. Does anyone know the name of the song that played when the kid first kisses Elisha (it's also played near the end of the film, in the limo — this time for sex)? Thanks a bunch—any help would be appreciated!S.

The girl is hot, even in that silly movie where she flies and lands a boeing 767, with the guy who played Dean Martin in the movie about Frank Sinatra.

I saw it too, and I really liked it.I had to laugh though, the character Eli I sware was me in high school. Even a friend said "How'd you get in the picture?"
Anyway, the score wasen't evne that bad and the Lakeshore release has a few tracks.
Fun movie, see it!

Found it! "This Year's Love" by David Gray. Should've known... I already have many of his songs. This film was surprisingly excellent. I figured it would be Elisha Cuthbert doing sexy things for the whole thing, without anything storywise. Good thing I was wrong, and it was especially fun since my high school grad was only last year, and the film probably has the most appeal for such an audience (the kid shouldn't have been such a straight-edge at the end, though, quite a silly move). A lot of people in the audience didn't seem to know whether they should laugh or not at the racist and gay—meaning homosexual—humour of the film; I sure got a kick out of it (anything that'll make me laugh is worth it's salt, IMO). [Here's hoping nobody losered out with The Alamo—scary mumbo jumbo bullsh*t]
Also, nice score by Paul Haslinger, but the songs are what made the film, musically speaking.

Anybody know what the song playing at the very begining of the film is? It's a really old song (redone I think for this movie).

The song at the beginning of the film is "Under Pressure" by David Bowie and Queen.

Yeah, same here! Its easily the best film of the year, so far (next to Kill Bill V. 2)... Spider-Man 2 looks pretty amazing, but inasfar as an entertaining ride and a well-made production, The Girl Next Door certainly takes home first prize. It's also interesting how the songs in this movie caught a lot of people's attention; they were used to great effect: the back of the soundtrack reads: "100% Movie Music! Every song on this soundtrack is featured in the film." Too bad they didn't include every song, since there are some noticeable omissions, like "Under Pressure" and David Gray's song, "This Years Love."

w1nD98: Try "Mondo 77" by Looper (that music is used in the scene where the kid sees Elisha struttin' her stuff below a huge poster of her at the porn show; it's also used in Vanilla Sky, I believe)... but there is another song that could be it and I'm not sure which it is, so just go through the track list of the soundtrack, since it's probably on there. Good luck!

Wow, does America's youth really confuse porno shows with the prom? Am I reading this thread right?

Haha, I saw the previews for this movie and went, "You've got to be kidding me", but with all the talk here about how good it was, might have to give it a chance. That or all of you guys weren't actually watching the movie.

I, too, am glad this film A) has at least captured some people's attentions (if not box office dollars, sadly) and B) caused people to notice its music. I caught a screening back in January and loved it. It's probably my favorite teen-themed film of the last decade or so. Yes, it's a bald-faced take off on RISKY BIZ, which caused a major argument between me and a purist friend. However, I feel like they took a cute concept and did a lot with it. My only real flaw is that the romance - despite having two attractive, likable people at its center - gets scant attention, with the kid spending more time with Tim Olyphant's character than Elisha Cuthbert's.
As for the music: I'm a big Paul Haslinger fan, particularly all the more so since I found out he's an ex-Tangerine Dream-er. Tried to get into TD's non-score stuff and it's been rough, but I love their stuff for movies like RISKY B., THREE O'CLOCK HIGH and THE KEEP.
I'm so glad Lakeshore was cool enough to flesh out the disk with Paul H. tracks. I only wish i had the Blue Crush score, but this sorta makes up for it (and my sad disappointment over the lackluster UNDERWORLD score he did)
The songs are SO well chosen for GIRL NEXT DOOR, IMO, I noticed it right away and it seems others did too. It was like Luke Greenfield (The director) found my cd collection, raided it and used it in the film -- David Gray, "Lapdance," the Who, "Under Pressure," and a bunch of other stuff. loved it. Ah, well...that's all I had to say, just wanted to chime in. Peace out.
