DAWN OF THE DEAD... I love this film. I was behind the scenes on this one, and had heard two good composers attached the project at seperate times (curiously, John Debney was also rumored to be scoring this film, which was not true). All of 'em would have supplied the necessary thunder to go along with the blood. But neither of the two panned out, instead Tyler Bates (GET CARTER) got the call. CARTER was a decent spin. DAWN is interesting too. There's some decent Hollywood film music muscle behind the score: Pete Anthony conducts. The score is sufficiently varied in the film -- from dark synths, to contemporary rythms and loops to traditional horror scoring for orchestra -- it's all here. And it all works, relatively free from songs (though the ones placed in the film are effective, especially the lounge version of "Get Down With The Sickness" by Richard Cheese!).

Wonder if this will ever get a release...

Ryan

Go watch the original, mister. OMG! John Debney was gonna score it???????? REALLY? Fancy that rumour! How curious, indeed!

I've seen the original, countless times.

There's no reason not to like the remake if you like the original.

I got a kick out of this movie. And the satire in this film seemed different than that in Romero's version, so it did actually seem like a "re-envisioning."

The score didn't grab me, to be honest, but Bates earned his paycheck.

The first 30 min of this movie is really good. The last 1 hour is poop. Typical dumb hollywood charcters who say and do dumb things.

The score? What score?

I loved this movie! It was like the perfect horror movie.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

You have your extremely intense opening, you have your stupid charactors that are pretty bad at acting (the mall security guard), you have your romance, you have your blood, you have your eye candy, you have your (pointless) nudity and sex, you have your loud noises to make you jump, and you have an ending that makes you go, "what the crap?"

END SPOILERS

Now onto the score. I really enjoyed it, but I wish there was a more recognizable theme (if there was one, I couldn't hear it). Like Halloween, everyone hears that theme and goes, "I know what that is!" But other than that, it was EXTREMELY entertaining.

I never did see the point in making a remake of this film and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
I did however like Wrong Turn which is basically the same as all teen slasher flicks.

When is Hollywood do something original again?

I liked this movie. It was really good. I thought they did good with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, but Dawn of the Dead blows that right out of the way.

I liked it. I don't think it's as good as the original, but it's reasonably entertaining and surprisingly gory.

No score release by the look of things, though.

Wasn't that the day of the projected alien invasion in the final X-Files episode?

Good is not the word. Great is more like it. Awesome use of classical pieces as well. I highly recommend the film if you have yet to see it. By far the most brilliant and subversive film made since A Clockwork Orange. Absolutely stunning!

Can you make a comparison to other score? I've been hearing good things about this movie, but not much about the score.
